The Legendary Troll Hunter
Ok so i dont know where to put this so Off-Topic is its Home.

I own a shit load of Dvd's. 300 Odd titles. I want to start Converting them to digital so that i can use my PC (Soon to be old PC) as a Media Center with lots and lots of TB's space.

What i want to do with each Title is burn it to HHD. But i want all the features and everything. (as i own my fare share of special editions and such) Ive seen one or 2 programs but the end product was this HUGE folder with multiple files in. Isn't there an easier way? Something not quiet so huge.

I know there are alot of smart people out there. Give me ur input please.

Thanx.

If you wanna keep everything as is, you're still gonna end up with a large file :o

DVD Shrink is one I know of ......

Bummer. Well Large is OK as long as its not 10GB a film. Which will then amount to 4TB if u include my series and Anime. I also want to keep the quality.

Take 2 has 2TB HHD's for R2500 a pop.

I think the smallest you could make a movie would be around 1.5 gigs? That's keeping the menu's and whatnot and still having the movie itself decent quality.

My method is the most suitable IMO:

Copy DVD to blank disc
Store away original and only use blank disc
Make .avi backup of DVD too
Store on HDD

My idea with this is to not have any disc to swap out. Guess ill just be saving up for 4 or so of those 2TBs.

I'd avoid DVD Shrink if I were you. I backed up a lot of my movies back in the day and all was fine when I watched them on my PC, but when I fire them up on my 42" LCD they're as blocky as all hell. Obviously this depends on the size of the disk, but a lengthy movie with plenty of extras ends up looking like it was shot on a cellphone camera.

I reckon your best bet is to use Handbrake to rip the main movie and extras to reasonably sized video files and then use one of the many free media centre packages to browse through your stuff.

I would suggest No1. DvD Ripper i use that all the time and you can get the best quality outta that :D

Omega... I use AnyDVD to get rid of the nasty stuff... and use either DVD Shrink(with no compression) or Handbrake. Got a Mvix to stream to mah flat screen :D

I just use winavi and convert my dvds to avi format, then i use meedio media centre with the apple ipod like menu which allows you to use a cover of the dvd on the screen and voila i have my own local netflix
