People will just find somewhere else to sell it, or will advertise it as restored and secretly inform people that it has Flappy Bird. Where there's a will, there's always a way.

Maybe, but some con is gonna buy your phone, sift through your data to pick up your details and clear your bank accounts for a nice profit. Plus there isn't much you can say because you handed all your data on a plate to a stranger, all to cash in on some easy money. While you can delete stuff off your phone, it's still there in some form until you factory reset it.

Oh awesome, so I should sell my phone then considering I still have it installed and working perfect.
Can't believe people would actually pay extra for a silly little game lol

Some big company should just buy the game from that developer and relist it. And deal with any of the legal shit if thats what scared the dude.

They tried, and he wasn't interested. Even worse is that he can come back at any time and sue anyone that tries to copy the game. So only option you have right now is the high seas.

There is some speculation that the real problem is Vietnamese culture in that the moment you make money family and friends crawl out of the woodwork and calling for their share.

Wonder if we will ever know.

I think that behaviour is probably common to ALL cultures :-P

But if that was the case, why didn't he continue to milk $50k per day?

I did suspect something like that initially, but the whole theory of legal threatening from Nintendo is also a pretty good bet.

Because then the people would never stop coming.

Nintendo didn't threaten any action:

Nintendo: No Complaints About ‘Flappy Bird’

The millions of fans across the globe who are dismayed at the sudden demise of the smash-hit game ”Flappy Bird” shouldn’t blame Nintendo, the company says.

In an email to The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa on Monday reiterated previous company statements that the Japanese videogame giant hasn’t complained at all about Flappy Bird’s similarities to Nintendo’s original “Super Mario Bros.”

“While we usually do not comment on the rumors and speculations, we have already denied the speculation” last week, he said.

Yeah but you could always factory reset and then install just flappy bird. If you have it on your account, you can add it to your device forever, even if it's deleted from the store. Plus I doubt a con would pay mucho $$$$'s just to get some obscure persons personal details.

Yeah.

The whole thing is a bit strange, but hell, it could really just be him worried about how addictive it is. Seems weird but if thats not what he envisioned then maybe that is all his motivation behind taking it down.
I did see that on his twitter account he replied to people and told them they should take a break from the game. I'm sure it must be really hard to suddenly have all this attention, and apparently he receives hundreds of death threats a day. Not fun stuff to be dealing with
