Mining giant Anglo American Platinum is losing about R100 million a day because of a strike by Amcu which entered its fourth week on Monday.

"The company is losing 4000oz amounting to R100m in revenue daily," said Amplats spokeswoman Mpumi Sithole in an e-mail.

Amplats on Saturday said it was suing the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union for damages and losses suffered over their work stoppage.

they dont really give a flying fuck what happening to the economy they just see "how die bass make to much" but mean while rand becoming more and more fail pushing everything up when they stopped the strike when they got pay increase they are worse off due to inflation being 20 -30% more. so they in the end make less cash ><

Time to take a hardline stance against these aholes. Every day we lose 100 million we will retrench 1000 workers. Every week we will close down a mine. And then stick to your guns. After the strike they will inevitably strike again against those terms, and then just get rid of more of them.

Don't think most of those suggestions are legal. Far as I know you have to be able to prove you can't afford to employ someone anymore in order to retrench them, not to mention that strikes in SA are (most unfortunately) legal if properly arranged, and therefore you can't take action against an employee who has chosen to partake in the strike.

If it's an unprotected or illegal strike they have no protection.

I don't understand...

I don't understand...

I worked with normal labor dudes and they always tuned why the boss makes so much money, when they doing the hard labor. Thats whats why stealing is big in mines, and working yards. Its the mentality that they work harder and should get the same amount.

Plus most unions know zip about businesses, economics and financial planning. So to them they just want to improve wages but care nothing about running a company into the ground so long as some guy with a matric gets paid a small fortune to steal from the company. I wish union leaders had minimum qualification standards before they could run a union.

yea man. I know a lot of labor worker that just want to work, but the unions and other members bully them not to. The i dont have a issue if the someone works hard and be rewarded but i mean some guys get fuck load more than normal worker. Man they get tones of benefits but then when they get to the work play they do some kind of work for maybe 3-4 hours in a 9 hour shift. My dad worked at a place where a union was running the show. they came in at 6 safety meeting and day play till 6:30 they then had breakfast till 7 then tea brake at 9 till 9:30 then lunch at 11 till 12 then tea again at then pack up wash up at 2:30 leave at 3 pm. Its working hour 6 hours and 3 hours of faffing but they never worked 6 hours because they had extra long brakes walked slow back to site and then start where they left off. So much time and momentum lost by this. But they still steal and Demand pay increase.

but the unions leader are more to blame because they are the once that are screwing everyone around and they are the reason so many people get hurt when strikes go bad.
