hief will output at a native 1080p on PlayStation 4 and a native 900p on Xbox One, according to Square Enix.

The publisher made the announcement to Eurogamer, before confirming that both versions of the game will run at 30 frames per second.

The news comes hot on the heels of yesterday's reveal that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will also run at a native 1080p on PS4, with the Xbox One version running at 720p. The news that Thief will run at 900p and 30fps on Xbox One means it'll have the same output as both Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Ryse: Son of Rome.

Game director Nicolas Cantin explained that the difference is hard to spot, saying the Xbox One version is just as good as the PS4 version and the resolution ""doesn't make much of a difference".

"As developers, no," he continued. "As engineers, yeah. The engineers, for sure. But for us, as creative director or art director or level designer, we gave the same data. After that it's a more technological aspect of the game. The engineers have to manage that."

Honestly, this seems to be the news for every single new game coming out. Just before anything releases these days, there is an article discussing the fact that the Xbox One will run the game on a lower resolutions. Nothing new at all.

That being said, I still have some hope for Thief. Quietly I think it will surprise a lot of people...or well the game play videos sure seemed that way.

I have this on pre order...I'll just have to wait and read reviews before collecting it. No way in hell would I buy this if it was locked at 30 fps. Then again I doubt it would be locked at 30fps.

I love how they all like, The difference is so small, its not really noticeable...

Then why bother mentioning it? Do they know gamers? "whistling: Its clear to everyone that the PS4 is out performing the X-Box, they just dont want to say it because they want to sell games on both consoles...

Its a combination of things. I find the PS remote's layout to be odd. I find using the same remote between PC and XBox to be a lot more intuitive. Everytime a new PS gets released we hear a "it's better, it's faster its just better because we as Sony says so, look at the technical numbers". The difference between 720p and 1080p is negligible and results may vary due to a combination of factors of which resolution is just one.

I'll give it another 2-3 years before I worry about "nex-gen" titles as most of the new titles were basically developed as current gen titles and are not a true reflection of next gen capabilities

I guess you should read more. Its not that they not developing for current gen or that its bad ports, its the actual memory and bandwidth limitations in Xbox. Sure developer will find way's to overcome this limitation a couple years down the line but its not going away and the same advances in coding that will overcome the issues at hand will only enhance more functionality on the PlayStation's.

Its said time and time again this time round is not a real race when it comes to gaming as PlayStation is targeted at the gamer and Xbox is targeted at the general consumer. Sure you can play games on Xbox but that is not its primary function its an entertainment device where the PlayStation is a gaming device that can stream media.

Yes and no, all PS4 and XBONE "next-gen" titles were released on game engines originally developed for current gen systems. Changes had to be made to the engines to get it working on the next gen hardware, but it was nothing significant.

There is no Unreal Engine 5 yet, CryEngine 4 is in development specifically for next gen consoles even the Anvil engine (which includes the next gen title "Rainbow 6 : Patriots") was designed for use on current gen hardware.

While hardware limitations play a significant role in holding back titles the developers and engines hold back just as much.

I guess, then again who am I to talk. Still jamming it up with PS3 and have no desire to switch yet either. All the games I want is still rocking on 5 year old tech.

Same feeling here, it took 2-3 years for the migration from PS2 to PS3 and XBOX to XBOX 360. The first couple of releases were horrendous pieces of slapped together nonsense using old engines.

Even though the games are made on current Engines, it doesnt mean they wont be better than previous gen games, because the Engine may be more advanced than the capabilities of the previous gen consoles...

Correct, but to take full advantage of the next gen hardware you will have to update the engine accordingly.

A good example here is CryEngine 2 (Crysis) vs CryEngine 3 (Crysis 2) and the interesting thing is that Crysis for XB360 & PS3 was released using CryEngine 3 as opposed to CryEngine 2 as the console hardware could not handle what Crysis was doing on the engine. Also, you cannot make an engine run better or look better with faster hardware. Many times an older engine (not specifically talking consoles here) will support certain hadrware options like DX9, DX 10, DX11 did.
