Its definitely the parents fault. An ISP can't be responsible for filtering and notifying people of their web habits?

On a side note...this really shouldn't be in the Console section....epic fail.

cant blame Xbox agreed. the kid should not even be on Xbox live. why does a 13 year old need to play online? with whom? there are so many adults online

13 I think is old enough. THe problem is he was using the browser unsupervised...he could've easily have just used a PC too. XBL has nothing to do with it either.

Just because he didn't follow any moral standard set by the parents means it's their fault.

Where you ever taught not to steal? Have you stolen something?
Ever taught not to lie? Have you lied?
Ever taught not to talk behind anothers back? Have you done so?

I was taught your morals. My family lived by them. Yet I chose not to. This isn't your simple 'rebel stage' I'm talking either. This is full on destruction. Both to self, and to those around me. How I'm alive is beyond me. And no, it had absolutely nothing to do with my upbringing.

While I agree 90% of the time it is the parents, one just cannot jump to conclusions and start blaming them, bad mouthing them, and ultimately holding them accountable, when they in fact had nothing to do with it.

Do you know how many killers on death row had the 'perfect family'? Plenty. Blameless parents. Yet they themselves chose to steer off course in order to satisfy their own needs. Think about that as well.

What you are essentially saying is that the kid is a victim. Not his fault, it's his upbringing.

I can find you may like that, when it comes to serious crimes in young people, it always leads back to parenting and the environment, more specific how the parents react to moral issues cause by the environment.

Simply put its not me saying it, its the study after study that does.
 
This is by far the most shocking thing I've ever read. Oh...my....sack. The sad part is, there's probably boat loads more incidents like these that just haven't been exposed like this. Good grief. I have to be honest, if I was one of the boy's parents - I wouldn't know how to handle this. I don't think I'd want the boy in my house any more.

Sjoe. Where the heck do you start the blame here? Society as a whole? Just on the parents? This is a real cracker of a problem.

I get your point, but there's also a huge difference between general rebellion (I dont really know your situation so I'm assuming you didn't inflict any real harm on anyone else along these lines?), and rape.
But children generally dont fully understand right from wrong, thats why theres a difference between juvenile crimes and adult crimes and also their punishments. I can tell you now though, there are plenty of kids at 13 who have watched porn and dont choose to rape - please note I say choose because he did make the choice and isn't faultless here, he's obviously the most at fault. However, maybe his parents didn't educate him enough(if at all) on sex and sexual morals...that would make it their mistake, and I'm sure thats not all they neglected. Obviously we're all making assumptions here, none of us can be sure of anything.
