Because they're uneducated. They haven't been taught critical thinking and to question everything, it doesn't come so naturally if you aren't educated.

Yeah without that education it isn't so illogical to vote for someone who has a similar background to your life; and actually knows what kind of life you have led. If the ruling party under Zuma's leadership actually delivered on the promises that they made without playing the blame game on the past then I would have absolutely no qualms with them continuing to lead the nation.

Exactly. Politicians want people to stay uneducated because that can ensure they stay in power. Obviously that's a generalization, but generalizations are generally based on some fact :p

An educated populace would require that any ruling government would actually have to endeavor to their fullest to ensure that the nation runs like a well oiled machine. Essentially serving in a government in such a nation would be a burden and not a privilege; the way government is supposed to be

Yip, unfortunately this country will never vote in an educated group into government until the majority is well educated themselves. This will take a loooong time here. in the mean time, all the stupids (government) will milk us for everything we have.

Well said, pity the gravy train is the ANC's official policy

It will indeed take a long time; because it is really in the ruling parties best interests to ensure a low percentage of populace is well educated. However I foresee that within about 12 - 15 years when the economic focus shifts from the current state into an era where we are trying to become a proper 1st world country that we will experience a government who will try to increase education if for no other reason than to increase the country's wealth (and thus their own pockets).

I'll be interested to see what happens when the current, first hand struggle politicians (like Zuma etc) are out. And the guys who really didn't experience apartheid join politics. That should shift some things.

That will be the earliest time that I can see a change in our national political sphere. When people who grew up in democracy are tasked with facilitating it then we will either see a government that wants to affect a positive change OR we shall see our nation devolve further into the grasp of tyranny.
