Will you be laying hands on Thief?

Totally agree with this. I've been burned enough by stupid crap, I learned my lesson thoroughly.

I can TOTALLY understand this. And TBH, I have never. Since I choose the games I'm going to get based partly on reviews and partly on people/friends who have/are playing it.

All I am saying is, I'm getting Thief because its Thief :)

IMO reviews are more to get a general idea of what people think of a game, but you will never truly know how good/bad a game is until you play it for yourself. People differ and while most reviews can say a game is crap, what's to say you won't enjoy it. If I had listened to reviews I would never have tried games like Splatterhouse, Neverdead, etc. and I really enjoyed them despite the poor reviews I read. As for Thief: not a fan of the franchise so I'm not getting it straight away, but I have a lot of faith in the developer since they did an amazing job with Deus Ex HR and I'm sure they'll do the same with Thief.

If it's good I'll get it on sale in a GOTY edition in a year or two.

If the combined consensus of previous Thief fans, and not taffer critics, agree it lives up to the original and is all they want it to be AND it has mod support, then I'll get it soon after release.

Else sigh and pass.

Got more than enough games to keep be busy so I'm ok with just going with the flow. I don't have time to play speculative games because I MIGHT me that 1 in 10 who actually enjoys the game...

Then...

You must get it! :D

How does that make sense? You must get the new game because the previous games were good, even though it's not remotely the same studio and there have been tons of previews that indicated the new game is only barely like the old ones?

I'm really not sure about this game, I liked the old one. But it does have some TF2 items I might want... *kidding* :p

Yeah I feel the same way about this installment. All the things I've been hype seem really amazing and this
Just doesn't get my blood flowing.

Perhaps it's a mental fear that it won't live up to the original?

Could even see a discount of about 30-50% during the steam summer/winter sale.

Be that it may, I'm not going to be deterred from on all time favorite of mine because others say it SOUNDS like its not good. Only way I will truly know that it is indeed crap, is when I play it and experience it for myself.

Like I said, if this was any other game, I would not been so inclined to get it. But I have been waiting/hoping/dreaming for this reboot for years, and its finally here.

I'll get this a few weeks after release, once the dust settles and the gamer reviews start flooding the net.

Exactly people put to much faith in reviews. These days if a game does not get 85+ on Metacritic it is bad.

I have somewhat noticed that my taste and Metacritic are not 100% aligned. I still use them to avoid games below 30 but I have notice loads of games that hit 50-80 to be way more fan than 85+ ones.

For those getting the game on PC, you'll be pleased to know it is not a port:

Though it was recently confirmed that Thief for PC will not support AMD's "groundbreaking" Mantle graphics API until sometime in March, developer of the console version Eidos Montreal believes the computer iteration of the upcoming stealth-action reboot is going to be "amazing."

Speaking with GameSpot as part of our Thief Now Playing feature, Eidos Montreal producer Stephane Roy said, "Honestly, if you're a PC gamer, you're going to be in love with [this] version." This is because developer Nixxes Software is "really, really good," he explained.

"They are going to have a PC version, not a port," Roy said. "The PC version looks amazing also. The PC version is very solid." Nixxes Software, based in the Netherlands, previously worked on the PC versions of Hitman Absolution and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The studio also contributed to the recently released Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for Xbox One PlayStation 4.

Gamers who pick up the PC version of Thief can also expect a range of options, Roy said.

"All the PC options you can imagine are there," Roy said, except Mantle, which will arrive sometime in March via a patch.

You can check out the system requirements for the PC version of Thief below. Eidos Montreal previously said that the PC version of Thief will look better than the Xbox One and PS4 iterations. You'll soon be able to decide for yourself, as the game launches tomorrow in North America and on Friday in Europe. Our review goes live today at 9 a.m. EDT.

It's got to be a port, I can't imagine they would produce two complete games for each platform. I'm sure they ported a lot across, the main issue is that once it's ported it needs to be optimized. But perhaps it isn't a port at all, in which case kudos to them :)

Was just pointing out that saying you must get this game because the previous games were good is flaky logic.

I've also been waiting for the next Thief game for years, but after reading all the previews and watching some streams, I guess I'll be waiting a few years longer. This game is not what I want from a Thief sequel/reboot.
