Assassin's Creed 5 Isn't Set in Japan

Ubisoft Toronto executive Jade Raymond told Adweek that Assassin's Creed V won't take place during feudal Japan.

Raymond squashed the rumored setting while talking about the Assassin's Creed franchise, and mentioned that the next game will feature her favorite historical era — though she couldn't offer any more hints. Ubisoft Toronto is known to be collaborating on a future Assassin's Creed project.

“When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV,” said Raymond. “If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”

Last month, there was a bit of confusion over whether Ubisoft has planned the ending for the Assassin's Creed series. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag lead writer Darby McDevitt elaborated on the situation.

"There's been a bit of confusion in that [Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail] once said that Assassin's Creed has an ending — that's not exactly true," he explained. "This storyline has an ending, but because all of history is open to us, we see the universe as a Doctor Who-type thing. There are so many possibilities we don't want to definitively end the universe, but we can have storylines that have endings."

Assassin's Creed V has not been officially announced yet. Latest reports state that two separate games could be coming later this year: one for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and another for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

But while waiting for Ubisoft's confirmation on the details surrounding Assassin's Creed V, find out how the series was born right here.

Would've been awesome though.

Imagine, running around with a katana instead of a broadsword and ninja stars or kunai instead of throwing knives.

I am actually hoping that the game is set in either Victorian London; or perhaps in Ancient Egypt. Or maybe even in deep Africa :D

Ya I definitely want to play it - will probably get it once I'm able to upgrade the PC, it struggled with AC3

To be fair the game needs to be run at least High settings to do it justice. But if you have the correct hardware for this endeavour it will blow your mind!

I don't have time for all the games anymore. I've got a Steam backlog of at least 1000 hours worth and the last AC game I played was the first one... I love pirate settings, so really want to pick up Black Flag.

What about asscreed 5 being set in the Napolean period that would be cool but it is a bummer about Japan it is such a natural fit.Ubisoft get rid of the goddamn hood it irritates the shit out of me lol.

Agreed, after plugging in my new GPU I spent 30 min just acting like a tourist looking at the sea and graphics

But the hood is the trademark of an assassin, its like steve jobs and his polo neck

I must disagree there. As little sense as the hood makes, (it is awfully conspicuous), it is a signature look for the assassins. Would be like a DMC game sans Dante's red coat.

30 Minutes? I'm still behaving like a tourist. Whenever I boot up I spend at least 15 minutes marveling at the detail; and being in awe of God-ray illumination effects.

And the soft shadows from the trees, fish in the sea and day night changes

And the fact that the ENEMY has mistaken friendly fire "whistling:. And certain enemies are noticeably smarter than the guys next to them

I once got an officer got an officer to shoot another civilian (head shot also) after he saw me kill a guard, I'm guessing he wasn't one of the smart ones.

Victorian London would be fantastic, full of murder and mystery and tea and scones :p

And you could have extendable claws like Jack the Ripper rather than the standard hidden blades.
No, just no
