715 new worlds discovered

I'll just stay hopeful that if people ever get the power to end poverty/hunger/disease/etc. they would actually use it.

Dude they don't need alien tech to do that now. America has the power to do it now but its not in their best intrest.

Sort of on topic I guess but I do believe there is life out there, I also think who or whatever they are will be significantly smarter, more advanced and intelligent than we are....I mean just look at the state of Earth...Nothing could be worse than we are lol

Don't have such a negative view of humanity :p Sure we've got lots of problems, but we're still technically in our infancy as a species, still evolving. And there is a lot of good in this world, and a lot of potential for good :)

Mmmm I think if we ever stumble upon another planet with living creatures/people/aliens, the Americans will go looking for oil, the Taliban will try hijacking their spaceships to crash into shit, Europe will try taxing them to death and force a single currency on them, we really don't have much to offer them, the aussies will show them how sheep are supposed to be used, China will copy all their tech and then sell half assed versions of it...I can go on :D lol

Haha perhaps :D What an interesting story that would make

SA would corrupt their government and Zuma would build a house on their moon for his 90th wife

I'm with wheelchair man on this subject. There is most probibly life everywhere in the universe as the building blocks are all over the place. In fact life never even formed on this planet we now call home, we hitchhiked on a rock.

The only question is, is there ingeligent life, or more advance than us ie survived the self desruct age. If there are the we should do everything possible to hide from those beings, cause we will be the natives in this Spanish inquisition.

The Fermi paradox is really interesting to read up about, it's basically this:

So maybe life on earth is unique :)

The biggest problem with Fermi Paradox is that it thinks that more advance tech = instant travel. Problem with that thinking is that everything in physics tells us faster than light travel is impossible, hell matter can't even get to the speed of light.

And you need faster than light travel to get anywhere. I mean for one look at humanity's current reach at Light speed(There are stars bigger than our reach) vs size of the universe

So yeah, there is that :D

That would bring forth the opposing problem. Considering if there is vastly intelligent life out there; and they managed some form of interstellar travel; would it not be tremendous waste of resources to go a little rock such as our own for no other purpose than conquest?

Interesting note on FTL travel - one of the things that makes it impossible is that you would not be able to navigate since your sensors would not be able to send and receive signals fast enough before you got there. In other words FTL travel necessitates FTL commnications.

Depends on form of FTL
If it's warp like travel then yes not gonna see what's coming. Wormholes on the other hand, not an issue.

Most interesting note on FTL travel is E=mc^2. Mass can't travel faster than light without falling back on itself, ultimately creating a black hole.

However Einstein dismissed quantum mechanics, so yeah...

Was about to say, that is the one way to look at it, cause there is always ddde5e204085e85728a7f9721974f450.png

Oh and f0e5599b7c45759b51337da8cdd289f1.png is the simplified one, the real formula looks more like ddf4c70a68e434556d5379c090291d52.png

I remember watching a show called Sci-fi science where they looked at the principle of bending space around one's spaceship, thus bringing point A and point B closer together - also you could move at FTL speeds while remaining stationary relative to the space immediately around you.

When we do eventually get out there, I feel sorry for the rest of the universe. Humans have proven time and again that we are not happy unless we can find an excuse to go to war. We can only hope that we would have evolved past our "I KILL YOU" mentality.

And what if there are even more savage beings out there? Being cold and logical can bring cruelty of note. They might see as as mere animals for extermination?

A very likely possibility. But I honestly think we would be OK. We have proven time and again that we are at our best and worst in the middle of a good fight.

Against other humans :p we will see when the day comes :p Though american soldiers are iffy at best.

It talks about interstellar travel, not light travel. So aliens from other parts of the milky way should have by now been able to reach us with spaceships traveling thousands of times faster than our current ones, but nowhere near the speed of light. Think 30-40 year trips :p

Also true. I think we will kak off at first (if we meet a more advanced race), but once we get our hands on some better tech and even the playing field, they are going to have a real fight on their hands.

In a perfect world it would be more of a "Starfleet" scenario where we have moved past our aggressive nature and actually have a sense of honour. Peacefull contact is the first priority.
