HoN Discussion

I've opened a new thread so that we can actually discuss the game, hopefully it can be beta key begging free (if the admins could be so kind?).

I'm on the edge of my cap, so I've got to limit my HoN, have the SA servers gone up yet?

Hi, I'm new to the site/forum :D

Anyhow, I've ran out of cap a fews days ago due to HON...but reading the annoucment by IGame, will we be able to use local cap even though we need to use the international log on server? Or will we only need to use inter. cap to log on then when you join a SA game you're on local cap?

The devs did say somewhere on the forums that they are trying to optimise the network performance, hopefully that should cut down the bandwidth usage. Local server would be great though, but I've found that there aren't many South Africans playing. So I've been sticking with the international games and the occasional SA game.

I'm not 100% sure, perhaps myGaming can follow up, but I'd assume that you need to authenticate international, and then you can switch to local and join a local game. It would be cool to authenticate on a local server, but I'd see that as a security risk.

Even then, the lower pings will help out gameplay - but playing on a UK game I found that high ping (300+) doesn't have a huge impact on gameplay.

They did mention that they'll be implementing a local authentication server later on.

The reason why we see such good latency is due to the high bandwidth usage. Apparently when you join a game, you somehow host as well, but on S2's network, which then increases the latency even though your ping is high. There is a way to reduce the load but then you will have to sacrifice the awesome latency!

Hi All,

So is the local server up and running? I assume the only way to join a local server is if someone hosts the server via choosing the server from the drop-down box in the "Create Game" window?

Ta.

I've not checked recently, but it should be up. And yeah, just choose SA where you could normally only choose US or EU

Alo

Wonder when the local server will be up as it is not availabile yet.

The local server will provide better latency for all users local to the server. Keep in mind that it will not use less bandwidth…it will be the same but only local bandwidth. ( Classed as International due to limitations of accounts )
Due to the authentication server being none local for now it will not be possabile to play the game on a local only bandwidth account in SA. I am presuming that the client will do regular checks with the authentication server as you play the game so the “switching” between local and international in my experience will not work and even if the server is local your international bandwidth account will take the hit anyway because the ISP cant tell the difference between local and international traffic on bandwidth accounts exept if you use custom router firmware with listings and multiple ppoe accounts. But not for the avarage user.

Once all the services of HoN other than the Game Servers have a local provider in SA Local only banwith should be fine. For now the only real benefit SA players will see with the local server is better latencies.

My 2 cents...

wait, I though hon, would only use servers to connect players once the game starts it should become p2p between the players, anyone know more?

I'm rather lazy atm, but if I find the will I'll load up wireshark and have a peek.

You're saying local peers could join a intl. server and then use local bw for the game because we are connected to each other. I doubt this is the case

No, the games are hosted on the server itself. Everything you send and receive goes to the server.

I was thinking about it last night and I've decided that they want to launch it today, for the weekend! Then everyone will rejoice and say yay iGame! :)
