rAge expo 2014 and NAG LAN ticket prices announced

Damn, so every year it goes up by R10, it kinda sucks when rAge seems to be going downhill

Its stagnating. They need to make the lan next door or move the expo out, close by seeing as Coca-Cola dome is just too small for both.

I've been saying they need to move also, maybe Gallagher estate since it can split the 2 venues for the LAN and expo. Seems that NAG is happy to restrict themselves though.

I'm sure there are a number of business and logistic reasons why it remains at the Dome. Still, it does seem to be getting increasingly cramped and unpleasant to attend. They really need to get the pro gaming stuff out into the main expo area - those games are epic and nobody gets to watch them happen.

Increasing the day ticket price by 14% is effectively what they have done. Have their costs escalated that much? Not sure how they justify a double inflation % increase. For me personally, I struggled to enjoy the event last year and I will be hard pressed to find a reason to go this year.

Agreed. Another venue is most logical. Somewhere where they can catch the traffic from Joburg and Pretoria. Gallagher makes the most sense.

It's a business for NAG. I do not think that it is much more than that for them. Choosing a venue that reached is capacity two years ago and try to squeeze in "bigger and better" into it, it feels more like greed than meeting the demand and passion of gamers, computer fanatics and the like. Such a pity.

I fully agree. The Do Gaming League tournament should be the focus point, not the LAN. Sadly it seems that they won't ever acknowledge that :(

I was sorely disappointed (and very annoyed) at how they handled the eSports side of things last year (my very 1st rAge). Unless you went there with the express knowledge that there were DGL playoffs taking place, you missed out. On top of that, the process you had to follow in order to spectate seemed a bit ludicrous to me; one had to register as a spectator in order to receive a spec pass a week or 2 in advance.

Now, bear in mind that this information was not properly available, which makes me wonder how they intend to draw attention from newcomers or those who don't know about eSports if they make it detached from the expo experience. I knew about the DGL games, but I didn't know about the spectator passes, so obviously I asked around at the expo about the DGL games and where they were being held. A few of the guys who were playing the BF4 demo told me the DGL Playoffs were being held below the Expo. I was then told I would need a spec pass, to which I responded "how do I get one?" which was met with "you had to register for one a while back."

The pictures of the spectator area also paint a picture of a very detached experience from the actual expo (and there seemed to be enough space for more spectators -_-).

I would've been happy to pay a fee if that was necessary, but just make the damn thing accessible!!!

Perhaps they could merge the 2 ideas; by moving the LAN event to the underground venue; and have the DGL play-offs be in the upstairs area. That would keep the LAN somewhat "exclusive" whilst allowing the play-offs to be visible.

It's like R10 for entry and R50 for the LAN increase... why is this such an issue?

The cost to the individual is not the issue, the experience is the issue. My point is that they don't care about the Experience because no matter what people will go.

I was there last year, only because I happened to be in JHB work work.. I enjoyed it....

But if that came to Cape Town for example, I would go one year and never again... regardless of the price.

I still miss the BEXA Computer Fair that was held yearly, a long time ago... who remembers those???
