Yea that was a seriously dumb thing to do. I paid via Paypal and it was immediately canceled on paypal by the seller. So it was a "authorization/validation" check, which all other companies do with a $1 charge on your CC. However with Zenimax it's the full amount and it will linger on my CC as "uncleared" . So as with all transactions, it can take like 2 weeks before it drops off.

The bigger F-up here is, if you were going for a 3-9 months sub plan you would now have like a huge uncleared amount sitting on your CC . So i suggest, only add 1 month sub plan to keep the potential damage at a minimum.

So i am having a triple whammy the last day,

1. They shut down servers in prime time , no warning , no nothing.
2. They force me to sign up for a sub to apply my game code , even though i got 30 days free gametime...and then they charge my CC also. (It is R200 per month to play this game, just by the way, suddenly that feels expensive!!)
3.They did not fix the launcher which would constantly wipe game files every time there is a patch (was raised in beta many times), and now i need to download 22gb for the 4th time!

/sigh.

The game is still enjoyable, in a solo/rpg sense, luckily i never expected more than 2-3 months out of it.

Going to activate and then cancel sub to see what happens and how long it will be before I get my money back. It is such a freakshow.

Do you know if you amount is cleared yet on your credit card?

I was about to pay with paypal/credit card myself untill i saw this "shit" move, would just like to know how long would we wait to have the amount cleared, some say minutes and some say hours even days to be cleared on the ESO forums.
 
So people who do not have credit cards or not enough funds available will be royally screwed this weekend at least. The okes who planned on paying with gametime cards will now have to go out and buy one just to activate. Sneaky move ZM.

No, it's laying under Uncleared, my Paypal Account shows this:

3 Apr 2014 Authorization To Zenimax Online Studio
Status: Canceled

The seller canceled this payment, and the money has been returned to your account.

So i assume the uncleared amount on my CC will just drop off after like 2 weeks (i guess this depends on the banks and such as to how long ). It's pretty much like that $1 charges companies make when they validate your account...

Just a tip if you are having re-download issues:

Ok guys. Here is a partial fix for problem. This all happened because launcher deleted this files:
ESO\The Elder Scrolls Online EU\depot\depot.version
ESO\The Elder Scrolls Online EU\game\game_player.version
ESO\The Elder Scrolls Online EU\game\vo_en\vo_en.version

So assuming you have the correct version of game you just need to copy them back. Its for eng version. If you need for other version ask people with other lang versions.

This may cause problem if you real game version and version in this file differs. But i guess if you able play directly with eso.exe you have the latest version so this should be fine. Anyway thats a better then waiting another n days from zenimax to solve this problem..

That solved my problem, seems those 3 little files, if they are missing the launcher thinks the game isn't there. So make a backup of those while you still have them, or get them from the forum thread above.

Lots of people are upset, more those who can't afford another $15 to start playing even though they have "FREE" 30 days.

And what about those who don't have credit cards or paypal.. they are now forced to buy a 60 day gamecard just to start playing.

What!? They charge you upfront? What the hell man! That's a sneaky way to get you to spend more money on a game you might not even enjoy that much. Plus the base game was already quite pricey...

Takealot came through for me. They are taking the parcel back from DBN and opening a box in main office and emailing me the activation code.

Very nice of them.

On another note: if you can find a reliable online game card distributor in the AU then you can buy it from them for a much cheaper rate than the EU. Australian dollar is R9. Have to buy a 60 day card though and it has to be reliable enough for you to trust that they will send you a code.

Yea, they technically only do a CC-validation check, but unfortunately they do it by charging your card with the full subscription amount instead of the $1 charge companies normally do. They also do not give you the option to set this up LATER (like at the end of your 30 days when you actually decide to continue to sub or not) .

So i'm not to fussed about the initial charge, i am however pissed about being forced to set this up right now and then having to cancel it immediately afterwards.

I bet they did this on purpose because people are going to forget. Normally after the 30 days ALOT of people really start weighing up options and only sub if they really like the game, now, they are going to get charged and go "doh, i forgot, so i guess i'll play another month" .

Thanks for this, seems i have no choice.. and then wait for the money to clear.

Also got this response from ESO Support just now..


What you are seeing on your account is the verification process to ensure that the payment details are legitimate for the upcoming monthly fees. Though it may appear you will have been charged, this charged will be reversed. I can assure you that you will only be billed at the end of your free 30 days game time.

I hope this has answered your question, and if not, please do not hesitate to get back to me and I will do my utmost to help with your issue

What i don't understand is why we need to pay $15 upfront.. and not $1 for the verification.

Good idea, 13 EUR is insane expensive, i was thinking R150 per month for this, but R200 is starting to delve into my drinking money now. So i will also look at the game card option.

I am trying my luck atm.. and asked if they can change my account to USD instead of EURO.

Or just ask for Australian dollar, what servers are the aussies playing on ? EU or US? I think Zenimax will probably give you grief because you play on EU server, insinuating you fall under europe, but if the aussies also play there then we have a valid case to request a "southern hemisphere" currency :)

Yeah, I know some Auzzies and Kiwis are playing on EU and some on NA.
