Wasted about 3 Pharos Stones in Grave of Saints though. Very disappointed! It seems that where I put them is purely for a purpose of creating traps.

Is it just me, but I found The Rat Vanguard quite.... ummm... underwhelming?!
I mean sure the amount of rats that come at you is insane, and then amongst the chaos, to find the boss and kill him. Though I died, and died, and died... a few times before I found the ideal strategy for this. I found that I wasn't really getting frustrated, like you do with so many of the boss fights.

I was quite disappointed with this one!

Your guys thoughts?

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Pharos Lockstone slots in both Grave of Saints and Doors of Pharos are purely there for members of the Rat Covenant to set traps for invading players.

Took me a while (and a few deaths) to figure out the Royal Rat Vangaurd runs around with the other rats, looking only slightly different. Once I knew that the fight was a piece of cake. The trick for me was not to lock on and use a sweeping weapon to hit multiple rats with each strike.

So what do you guys choose as your favourite weapons? I was rolling with a B@rstard Sword + 10, but then i found the Enchanted Falchion and i really dig its move set. Especially the run-attack!


also, when/where can i enhance a weapon with fire/bleed damage? I have the stones. do i need to unlock McDuff ?

I really like both the Drangleic Sword and the Pursuer Ultra Greatsword but at the moment my Zweihander+8 does a LOT more damage than both of them. Still looking for Twinkling Titanite and Petrified Dragon Bone to upgrade the other 2 swords and then I'll use whichever one of the three that has the best damage output. I have decent STR and VIT so the weight and requirements are not really a problem.

Also have the Dragonrider Bow for my ranged needs.

i crafted the DragonRider bow and its awesome. Only had one Petrified Dragon bone with which to improve it tho My STR is low as i'm focussing on a Sorcerer build, so not able to handle any of the big "guns". I use a +6 Long bow for range, +9 Pyromancy Glove for some variety and a +10 Sun Sword as my melee weapon. I use a +10 claymore as a backup weapon.

I'm currently using my favorite Falchion+6.
As a secondary I've got my Halberd+4 which I'm phasing out to a Black Knight Halberd.
And as a backup I have my trusty old Heide Knight Flame Sword (which came in hand fighting Rat Vanguard). And lastly I sometimes like playing with the Royal Greatsword.

Again, I haven't focused much on strength, more so on dexterity, and now I see the scaling on the Black Knight Halberd as good, so will be pushing that.

Hopefully it turns out to be true. I've used one TT on my Drangleic Sword and 2 on my armour. Since I found the Drangleic Armour I haven't found armour with better stats yet so I tought I might as well upgrade it instead of the sword since I have another sword with higher damage output.

If you looking to farm Human Effigy, burn a bonfire ascetic at the first bonfire in Last Giant Forest place, chest will respawn with 5 effigies.

trouble is, i don't have the require load to wear Dranglaic armour even with royal soldier ring, it puts me over 70% and i phat roll

Yeah, that's one of the main things I upgrade. I'm wearing full Drangleic Armour (with the shield) and I have the Zweihander equipped and I'm at about 68%. If I equip my bow it goes to about 71% ( for now) so I just equip it when I need it for the time being.

Aah yes, definitely! Really great move set with this weapon. Also the fast hitting/slashing of it appeals to me.

I have the same problem, I rely heavily on my rolling/dodging. I move in, strike one or twice, move out. Currently using the Elite Knight Armour.

i am currently rolling with a full set of BLACK armour that Staid gave me. Its lightweight, but doesnt offer much protection. needless to say, i have to dodge like a madman to avoid death

My current stats; (or the important ones, give or take by memory)
SL = 83
VIG = 22
END = 27
VIT = 17
STR = 22
DEX = 32
FAITH = 10

VITALITY is 28 at the moment, same as my VGR and END. STR is about 35 and DEX at 25 currently. Want to get VIT, END and DEX (or VGR) to about 30 and STR and VGR (or DEX, still deciding if I should focus on DEX or VGR more) to about 40. I haven't touhed the other stats though. Everything else is still as it was when I started playing.

ahh, ok. I'm SL 100 and i have pumped a ton of points into INT and FAITH. I'm the plus side, i'm pretty devastating with those lightening spears

lol I can imagine. Makes me keen to try a Faith build as I've also seen this in a play through. That lightning spear looks insane, I just don't like the slowness of it.

it does take a little while, but once you get the feel for the timing, you learn to "charge" it up a split second before enemy is in range. I often hit RB (to start firing) and only THEN hit the RS to lock on.

I cancelled the order for the guidebook, as it was only due to arrive at the end of the month. But now I am very tempted once again if only it was available in a store where i could get it ASAP instead of waiting god-knows-how-long
