I think you usually can find out officially at 16 weeks, but they sometimes can give you an educated guess earlier.

Although friends of ours just had their baby last week, and from the early scans the doc said he was 95% sure it's a girl, and they were really hoping for a boy, but at the 16 week scan, it turned out that the doc was wrong and it was a boy after all.
