E.T. videogame burial site uncovered

Microsoft have released a little video of the dig:

It's a very strange but interesting piece of gaming history.

What's the point, though? They dug up the cartridges, now what?

So much money for having your name up in lights for a few moments.

Jeeze who cares. There are so many better mysteries in the world than this.

I think thats pretty cool, this story has been rolling around the web for years and to prove it as true is pretty cool, It's like gaming mythbusters. Plus with a crowd and crew like that i doubt you can say this was pointless, it shows just how much of a cult was behind this myth.

What confuses me a bit, is when did people start thinking it was a myth? I was always under the impression that it was a known fact.

I think originally it was, but over the years it became somewhat of a legend and people were no longer sure whether it was actually true, not to mention there were supposedly millions of E.T. copies buried, and they only found a thousand or so total Atari products. The very fact that they decided to dispose of it in such a strange way also added to the longevity of the legend I guess. I too find it very interesting and think it was great of Microsoft to fund this.
