No One Lives Forever trademark filed by Night Dive Studios (System Shock 2 / others re-publisher)

Siliconera has discovered that Night Dive Studios, a company that republishes PC classics like System Shock 2, has filed trademarks for No One Lives Forever, The Operative, Contract J.A.C.K. and A Spy in H.A.R.M.’s Way, all of which are game titles connected to the franchise.

It’s worth pointing out that these are trademarks. Copyrights are rights for the source work, whereas trademarks are for certain terms and phrases associated with the source work. However, it doesn't make sense that Night Dive would be able to file these trademarks without the rights themselves transferring to the company as well.

YES! This is great news!

My body is ready. These are the same guys that dug up the rights to SS2 and I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. No one knew where the System Shock 2 license was, turned out it was with some random insurance company, and those guys found it.

The NOLF games have been in limbo for quite some time, but the trademark application suggests that Night Dive could be bringing them to digital distribution outlets, probably GOG first and later to Steam, like they did with System Shock 2.

Last year, before the Disney acquisition, they had also hinted that they were working on some of the classic Lucusarts Adventure games. If I recall an article I read earlier this year, Night Dive and GOG also hinted that they are/were in talks with Disney/ "new"Lucasarts. This is the year man :D

Please. PLEASE! PLEASE! Keep all the classic antics and weapons in NOLF, it was so charming and funny and a ground breaking game for it's time.

I doubt they'll be making a new one. I'm pretty sure they're just trying to get the rights to it so that they can sell the originals on Steam and GoG.

I only ever played the demo of NOLF. It's a shame that I never got to play the full version since everyone loved it. I hope they are making a sequel!

There was already a sequel made, and a spin-off game. I highly doubt that they're making any new games, they're just plan on re-releasing them on GOG and Steam.

NOLF 2 had quite a cool multi-player co-op. You could play through some of the main missions with up to 4 people. It could be quite a challenge on the harder difficulty settings - lots of fun though.

NOLF was such an awesome game. I had tremendous fun with it. The gameplay was perfect and the story was written very well. Loved it growing up. I'll definitely pick it up once it's on Steam. Would be great to see a sequel someday, even if this is not going to be it.
