Diablo III coming to Xbox 360?

"Of course, Blizzard king Mike Morhaime has previously suggested that Diablo III might turn up on console. "Every game we have the discussion about which platforms make the most sense," said Morhaime in an interview with Shacknews at BlizzCon 2008. "As Diablo 3 takes shape, I think we'll do an evaluation. I think there is a pretty good argument to be made that that type of game might work very well on consoles. There might be some technical limitations though that we might need to get past."

It appears those technical limitations have been given some serious thought. According to a tweet from Blizzcon 2009 by GameTrailers host Geoff Keighley, "[Chief Operating Officer] Paul Sams of Blizzard says they haven't ruled out Diablo III for consoles -- and are currently talking to the first parties."

With LAN play nixed from the PC version, and all online multiplayer shovelled through Battle.net, confirmation of a console port might just make gamers happy again."

It seems he doesn't say anything about X360 in particular, hopefully if it does come to consoles (which I doubt) it will be on PS3 too. However, I think that Diablo III will be a game that you absolutely have to play on PC. I am trying to save up some money so I can get a new PC just to play this damn game. :)

I'll buy the PC and XBOX versions with no hesitation. I will literally play both copies simultaneously. Oh God, I cant wait!!!!!!!

I personally find that when CRPG's type games are designed and intended for a multi-platform release that they have to be 'dumbed down' somewhat due to controller limitations. Well from everything I have read Diablo III is already dumbed down to start with. Oh wait, what I mean is - made more accessible to a larger audience.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion i guess, but what do you mean by dumbed down?

What I mean is a keyboard has many more options for gameplay setups while a controller has a very limited set of options. So what often happens is many nuanced gameplay options that will work with a mouse and keyboard which add more complexity to a game, will often have to be dropped for a controller setup.

Yes, its true, but the controls for windows is already much more advanced than Diablo 2 and seeing that the conversion to controller worked really well for Sacred 2.

Yup worked pretty well with Sacred 2. I guess it is like FPS / Strategy titles. They both work on consoles, but the PC versions are a little more nuanced than their console counterparts can be. This can add more technical long term challenge and skill.

I like both systems, I just do not want everything to be homogenized long term and lose all variety.

plus graphically it would really help alot of players who cant afford a top of the range pc but do have a xbox / ps3 to enjoy the game at full HD graphics. And lets say you dont have a pc nor a console but really wanna play DIABLO III badly, then it would be much cheaper to buy a console than a "Recommended Specs" pc.

Uh, Diablo has always been dumbed down. I mean, come on. It's just a whole lot of clicking.

1. Im a HUGE Diablo fan!!!!

2. Originally I would of bought the game for pc, install it once and that is where it would remain for the rest of my pc's pitiful lifespan.

3. And with an xbox copy aswell, I can literally start 2 games at once, playing with 2 different classes of coarse, chapter for chapter.

4. When Diablo finally gets released, it will be the only game i'll be playing for atleast the next six months.

5. DIABLO III is God amongst games :)

Well it is getting worse...

When before you had to plan your attributes and skills, now they are taking the former out of the players control, and the latter can be reset at will. Also I believe your view is coming off as myopic. You could use your same arguments and say the same for most FPS games, well games in general. While the genre skimps on story, it makes up for it in 'twitch' gaming, and character build planning.

Carefully planning out and going through the challenge of having a gimp character early on but a strong one later is what appeals to me. There are a lot of different choices in class builds in some of these games like Diablo.

lol, diablo 3 on xbox? That would be awesome
But the pc version should then have the edge on gameplay not the xbox version :p

I'm not sure what your point is here. We're talking about Diablo, not FPS games. Whether or not I think anything else is dumbed down isn't relevant right now.

I agree that the levelling and attribute paradigms being nixed is kinda unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that Diablo has always been a pretty dumbed down game. Even the character builds don't reach anywhere near the complexity of a character in, say, Fallout 2. Balancing the RPG elements in an action RPG is a tricky business, especially when marketing to the mainstream. The fact is, most gamers just don't want the RPG stuff.

Also, I think people are very quick to forget that Blizzard is a business enterprise first, and a game developer second. And like any business enterprise, it exists primarily to make a profit. That means appealing to the largest possible market. That means chucking the RPG fiddling. That's business. That's life. Deal with it. :P

Good points. But I dont think they will give the game a "lighter ambiance" just to appeal to the majority of gamers with the risk of p$ssing off their legions of followers. My point being, they will still stick with the roots of Diablo. :)

There are less than 10 games that run on full hd resolution on the consoles and I know of only one that supports 60fps a second. It just won't be possible for a 60fps experience.

10 GAMES? Dude, almost all of my xbox games support full 1080p resolutions. In fact, probably almost 90% - 95% of all xbox games support full 1080p.
