Guys, can someone please help me with this. I know with D&D RPGs dual wielding sometimes carries a penalty. How is it handled in D3?
Say I have two 1 handed weapons that does 150 DPS each, does thar equal a two handed weapon that does 300 damage? Of course ignoring attacks per second and magical secondary damages.
I'm hopeless noob, enjoying D3 and would like to get the most out of it. For instance, only found out I can give my companions better weapons when I started my 2nd playthrough....
Thanks for the reply, I've done research and getting an answer isnt easy, for example, lots of math calculations with contradictory view points and also how did the patch 2 effect the older answers.
well, 2x 1 handed weapons with sockets will out dps a single 2h weapon, it'll gain resources faster, generally have more attack speed, will help you gain life per hit faster, the list goes on. 2h weapons in D3 are broken at the moment.
Indeed, the only place 2 handers are good are for big hitters, but even then as Joker said they are far from optimal, even for some crusader builds. When you dual wield your main hand is used for Weapon Damage calculations. So skills that do X% weapon damage will use your main hand.
As an aside: Keep in mind that currently +X% damage affix on weapons do not work when the weapon has elemental damage type. It only applies to "black damage". It makes a great reroll candidate for a socket unless you want to stash it until it's fixed.
