$2.9 million prize money for Dota 2 International

Is latency really just a south african issue? I would have thought the latency between the US and EU would put either team at a disadvantage as well.

I bought a compendium!

Regional qualifiers, theres qualifiers for EU and US, they play on their own servers then on LAN when they attend TI , so they dont have any latency issues.

Our scene aint big enough to warrant a qualfiers (and the level difference is way to big)

What boozer said. If you look at most tournaments, they're divided into EU, US, and the Asian regions, this unfortunately means our scene still needs to pick up quite a bit before organizations take notice of us.

It is actually a legit issue when teams play online from EU to the US. However I know that It's only on certain servers where the latency is a truly detrimental issue. Usually they find a middle ground and go from there.

I get that, but that's not what I'm saying. Latency is also affected by distance. I would guess US players playing on EU servers are going to also have Latency issues?. I'm just saying I don't think our latency issue with EU servers are purely because of our shitty internets.

No problem; however our internet does play a role. I know when the CIS countries play against Americans; depending on server location they experience a latency of about 130 - 240 ms. Whereas the last time I tried to play on a US server I was sitting on a solid 400ms minimum; and when I went EU I was on 280ms minimum. I have a 4Mbps line so I don't know how it matches to 10Mbps , but more often that not you are gaming on a 4Mbps line.

But bandwidth isn't really a factor in latency? Surely Dota doesn't use the full 4Mbps. Mines generally closer to 200ms for Western Europe, but I think my line is only 2Mbs.
