Bitco for gaming

Anyone else here using Bitco as their ISP http://www.bitco.co.za/homebroadband/, after I've been struggling for weeks just to get Telkom to return my calls or send someone out to find out if an adsl line will be possible at my new complex, I'm seriously considering getting the 5mb uncapped from bitco, would you guys recommend it for the sole purpose of gaming, or should I just stick it out and hope Telkom comes around, from some of the reviews I've read on SA gamer and mybroadband, people are getting better pings than with their adsl:confused:

I haven't heard of them before, but I haven't been looking for connectivity solutions for a long time.

Coverage looks a little patchy. Have you looked if your house would actually have coverage?

You can use Telkom's ADSL checker to see if there is ADSL in your area. And rather apply for the line through another ISP like Web Africa, Afrihost, MWeb, etc, and let them deal with Telkom, much less painful that way.

I have been looking at them also as they guarantee speed as apposed to Telkoms best effort.
They also have a better upload speed.

Once I have moved I will likely use them.

Jip I fall within Bitco's coverage zone, and yes I've tried that adsl checker if gives me "ADSL availability and maximum speed supported by your exchange cannot be determined at this stage. For residential services please contact the call centre on 10210, for business services please contact the call centre on 10217" thats when I started phoning telkom, only for them to take my details, and tell me they'll get back to me regarding availability

Ah ya, dealing with Telkom is a huge pain. I always find that you have to phone loads of times, and eventually you might get to talk to someone who actually knows what's going on.

So I have put my google-fu to use and have yet to find a bad review for them.

Seems they are very good for gaming and as long as you are in coverage then you are sorted.
I will personally sign up for 10mips as soon as I have moved.

Am i correct in saying its a wireless connection and they give you a wireless router for your home Wifi?

I checked my are and im in a decent coverage spot... Would love some feedback from someone that's on it...

+1 proper review on them would be good

Err...I got excited too as it falls under the area I live in and Iburst is driving me mad (can only play dota).
But when I started reading their FUP:-
Throttling may also occur when a customer downloads at near 100% of the line capacity for approximately 1 hour.

So that is worse than Iburst in my eyes, Iburst if I leave it for a day to update my games. My line is fine when I get home, but if i leave it for a week they slow me down for 2 days.

The throttle is a halfed line speed as I understand. So your games should update. Also it get's reverted within an hour too so your not throttled for days. Literally until you cool your line. It's not unreasonable I think but to each his own.

@Crash and Tom, theres a nice thread om MyBB about them.

Yip...that thread will answer all your questions. I'm not a subscriber of Bitco but there was only joy on that thread. Weird for MYBB :P

Pings to EU is +-190 and gaming and streaming is prioritised under business. So you won't get throttled for streaming whole day. The rep on that thread also informed that you will be throttled for downloading continuously during the day (albeit not from 10pm till 8am) but the throttling will be lifted an hour (yes an hour) after you've decreased your usage.

I wanted to apply for it since I couldn't sync at 1MB with Telkom which I subsequently cancelled. Getting married soon and the SO got a 4MB connection (sigh...through Telkom) so it would defeat the purpose to sign up with Bitco now.

Check the review thread:

To answer this question, yes a router is included in the deal, they also come and install a small satellite/dishlike device at your home to pick up the signal from the tower.

I applied for the 2mb option, will upgrade to the 5-10mb after a couple of months if I'm happy with the results...Will keep you guys posted

Ye i picked up the thread on my BB and there are pictures of the little dish and everything... My area has had cables stolen so many times they not going to replace them again...

The price is not that different to telkom adsl... I previously had a 4 meg uncapped for roughly 1k a month...

Damn dude, 4Mbps uncapped from Web Africa is R549 pm, including line rental

You have got to be kidding me :wtf:

I had to cancel my line in December as i moved office, but it was 900 and something cant quite remember... Have prices changed that drastically in 5 months or was i just being screwed?

They have dropped a fair bit in the last while, but the big difference is that you can now get a 4Mbps line or a 10Mbps line rather than the 4/10Mbps line, where you'd get whatever your exchange can handle. So instead of being forced to get the 4/10Mbps line at R413 (old price), you can now get a 4Mbps line for R299 (Telkom) / R250 (Bundled with WA), or a 10Mbps line for R425 (Telkom) / R400 (Bundled with WA).

And bandwidth prices have dropped recently as well.

I just installed my Bitco 5MB line Last week after not being able to play my Xmas games over my afrihost connection.

I must say it is excellent for gaming. I haven't had one disconnect while playing The Crew that previously disconnected me if my upload or DL speed dropped a bit.

Since someone necro'd ill post my stats :D

Lol bitco, pfff

I got a 2mb business package (that bursts upwards in speed) with another wisp and lets just say ive managed to pull about 300GB's in about 3 days :D for R500 a month

Here is the speeds i get about :D yes thats 21Mbps :D within the first 4 hours i pulled 11GB's xD

As soon as Bitco drops their prices a bit I'll also move over to them. I'm currently using LTE and even though it's blisteringly fast I don't have that much bandwidth. And I just can't see myself dealing with Telkom again. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. At one stage I seriously considered kidnapping a Telkom technician to actually get one at my house.

*edit*

Who is that with Caboose?
