Have you made money from online gaming

So the other day my friend told me that his one friend made like R4mil for winning a Dota 2 comp in USA. I Didnt believe him. This guys is now a Dota 2 Commentator and gets paid for it.

So I was wondering if anyone on here has or is like a Pro gamer, Where you actually earn your living playing games, or have won money or prizes in online comps or massive comps like at RAGE.

I should have taken my online more seriously if it is true.

Interested to hear his commentary.. :D
Can't imagine how that would be like.

I've sold a couple of CS:GO cases for a dollar or two. :p

I've read that back in the days when diablo 3 still had the real money auction house, people could earn quite a bit from selling legendary items.

I know and work with a guy who won a fortune in a world championship of a game (I won't name the game, because it'll be pretty easy to deduct who the person is once that is known). He travels to a different European country every year, still on that winnings.

Most money I've made from a game is $20.. I sold a stattrak skin for a gun.. was quite nice because it helped me buy another game :D

When the auction house was running for Diablo 3, I managed to sell enough on there to almost cover the cost of the game.

Also made around $20 from selling stuff I got in Dota2.

ANd around $7 and counting from steam trading cards at 15c a pop! ;)

Have a buddy who was part of a team that won R50,000 prize for CoD or something...

Only money I made from online gaming was $60 from selling items on Diablo 3 and then bought things from ebay :D

Sold a perfect stat-trak AK for about $70 blew it on more cases, wish I never did.

Wow I never actually thought other people made case, but $20 is like R200 so thats alot for something you got for free.
Next trick learn how to play dota 2 and Commentate.

In my early days of CSS and UT, myself and a good mate of mine made quite a lot of cash at lan's and online.
Also won a ton of pc goodies, over the past 13 years or so, including a full gaming pc, a mid spec gaming laptop, tons of mice, keyboards, headsets, 2 monitors, 2x 6970 Lightnings, a GTX690 ect.
I also made a ton of cash on D3 (R6000) and Dota 2(R3000 or so)

Def not enough to make a decent living though, was however enough to play most games at max settings while growing up, and its also partially to blame for my insane love of tech.

Yeah I have a Pro gamer, don't let him out the basement. This is a good thing, because he reacts negatively to sunlight anyway.

Most I have made from gaming is selling a Dota 2 item for ~$7 steam credits which I then used towards a compendium. It is pretty clever to lock any item sales to steam because Valve is guaranteed to get money from it.

Pro gaming though is just like any other sport, the only way to make a living off it is to be one of the best in the world / country.

LOL @mottamort.

I also see these "nerds" or what ever people want to call us, they make cash on youtube playing games and people watch there channels.

Looks like a gamer is like the new "cool" thing.

I've never made anything but the wife made some bucks thanks to online gaming the other day: I was playing Trackmania and she swiped my wallet.

Also made a few bucks when Diablo 3 first launched... But it died down very quickly... It was like a bit of a fad in the early days, alot of guys were willing to pay for items that weren't even legendary...

I made a few bucks to get by when WOW first came out.

How i did it though will forever remain a secret...

I've made some Steam money from selling cards and items - probably in the region of $15-$20 in bits and pieces.

Just used my $4 GMG credit from Playfire last night to subsidize a purchase.
