I started contributing to the forum before this new competition. I have already given away 3 games.

I am active on the forum based on the recommendation of my good buddy Hiro.

Guys are pretty harsh here.
 
Only thing better than someone having a goodbye ranty thread is someone else coming in and getting insulted by the comments aimed at the poephol who started the thread .......

I've been saying that from day one....when they first started with these quantity of post driven comps.

I find the whole concept a little bewildering to be honest...is the intention to increase the raw volume of posts regardless of how sht the quality?

I haven't been here long enough to see what other kind of competitions get held, but if it's things like voting contests then those tend to kinda become popularity contests where a noob with no friends stands no chance of winning. These activity contests are done to encourage the joining of new members and direct more traffic to the forum, and the spam has been minimal at most. It's unavoidable but if you see a spammy post then report it. Gotta take the good with the bad. Remember the new guys are still getting accustomed to what is allowed etc.

Make them random / vote / quality / nomination / whatever driven...don't particularly care....I'm OK with idols singing & fingerpainting comps even...anything except raw post rate.

Maybe. Do you really want to trade new members of unknown value (possibly fake accounts created for comps) for existing members with proven track records (by annoying them).

Or how about the cause is addressed rather than attempting to fix the symptom with a million RAS's.


Unlike OP I'm not sufficiently annoyed to react by leaving, but it is one of those decisions where I just can't comprehend what the powers that be were/are thinking.

There is rules for spaming posts anyway sooo unless its along the topic and "their" opinion then why cant they post a comment on it.
Its helps increase people talking else it would prob be a dead forum. if you incourage people to come and talk they will stay even after all is finished.

Uh because they pull up threads from 6-12 months ago and then post 1 liner dribble in it. They then claim its not spam, but they've done it 10 times in the space of an hour. There are more than enough fresh/new threads for them to share their thoughts/opinions. There is no need to pull up older threads.

As someone mentioned earlier, I am usually very chilled about this sort of thing, but when someone claims they aren't even interested in the comp, but they appeared right when the comp started and didn't post any thing of value, only 1 liner rubbish how am I supposed to react. Its annoying when you are actually an active member on the forum, posting things that offer some sort of value and then only to find 10min later your thread/post has vanished because some comp spammer posted in 6, million year old threads.

There are enough regular folks here to have a meaningful forum so your dead forum example is way off the mark.

While there are some that do stay after the competitions the majority font bother.

Your lack of understanding of how things work around here is glaringly obvious ;)
