I wrote an article a couple years ago regarding the differences between playing 3rd person and fps on Console and PC. The responses I got were very mixed but a lot of people agreed that 3rd person works better with a controller of sorts rather than a keyboard and mouse, whereas FPS is muuuuuuuch better with a keyboard and mouse rather than a controller, purely because of the movement aspect/s.

FPS and RTS are definitely best with keyboard and mouse. 3rd person games tend to be better suited to controllers

However I have seen people play FPS games on a controller and pwning the players like crazy, that's with auto-aim switched off as well.
