I thought maybe what would work is the same routine used for US Itunes store. Fake address to sign up then use gift cards purchased online.

Games there use steam client but I'm not sure if steam codes are region locked. Be a bit of waste to purchase a $15 gift card only to find the scheme doesn't work.

Steam games can very much be region locked and OP has a legitimate reason for concern

Yes, they can be locked from the store. But that has never stopped someone from being able to redeem a code or be gifted a game.

That problem doesn't really exist between the EU and US regions.

What you're linking to is primarily to prevent people from the EU and US regions buying from cheaper regions such as Russia.

Let's go through this one last time: Yes, there are region locked games; although this is primarily when purchasing from cheaper regions such as Russia because there was a significant problem with people doing this. This doesn't really affect games purchased between the EU and US regions.

Though nothing is ever completely certain, this hasn't ever been a problem before, I really doubt it'll be a problem now. Speaking from experience.
