Should I skip Assassins Creed 3 and play AC4

Agreed. Watch Dogs is not AC, not even close. AC should stick to historic periods, that is one of the biggest reasons why I am such a big fan of the series.

+1

AC has always been set in that crack of plausibility in history. The people in ACIII were all real with similar motives and goals, AC sits in that what if place.

If you can get AC3 for cheap then get it. Especially if you are true AC fan(lol! Aircon:D)

Kalahari is currently having a gaming sale. All the Assassin's Creed games (PC versions only, and excluding IV) are around R80 at the moment. I'm loving IV but haven't played the others but am very tempted to get them all now. Just feel like I'll be disappointed in the gameplay if I go backwards...

exactly! i have gotten jaded with the mechanics now. Its become the same old gameplay, with a few gimmicks thrown in. I know i am in the minority here, but i really didnt like the inane "ship battles" from AC4
What du fuq the sailing is awesome no just no.You can complain about repetitive mission structure and all that but not about the sailing,if you said that there animation system is not up to snuff I would of agreed but the sailing is awesome.Play the third game it is not a happy tale but considering the subject matter that is to be expected.

I don't mind if they use the same mechanics from game to game as long as they keep the story good and interesting. (Same goes for the Bioware games). Although, I don't care much for all this extra stuff that they keep adding like the tower defense in Revelations and the homestead stuff in AC3.

That said, I found it really hard to get into AC3. I hated the character and the game felt boring so I really had to force myself to play on... then I finished sequence 4 this weekend... and now I can't wait for another chance to continue playing so I can finish this.

I also found Connor very hard to play with at the start, he just seemed to undeveloped as a character compared to previous Assassins who seemed to have a backstory and drive. I like to think that if the did a sequel to AC3 I would be a lot more interested in Connor now that I know something about him, but as a kid with no clue about what he wants he was so hard to follow.

Still the one cool thing about AC3 was it got me to buy a DVD set on the American revolution, it was so cool to watch after playing the game and having the characters back story and personality match their real life past self in the documentary.

I enjoyed AC3's combat, and the typical gameplay and story was interesting, but the protagonist, Connor! He's got this persistent way about him, which was good, but his overall personality was a very stuck-up, too serious. Preferred Ezio's character and personality above all other assassins.

I still wish to play Assassin's Creed 4.

Sorry for the semi thread-resurrection, but whomever said that it's okay to skip AC2:brotherhood needs to go lie down for a while. That game has a HUGE plot twist and some very important details to it. You cannot play AC2: Revelations without having played Brotherhood first. The gap you're left with is too big.

Isn't it just "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood" and "Assassin's Creed: Revelations"? Without the "2" everywhere.

Could be. Either way, some people say it's "fine" to skip brotherhood because it doesn't continue on with the story as much. That's completely false. In fact, the plot twist brought in from brotherhood is massive.

Technically the titles don't specifically reference to II in the title. However saying that it's more factually correct to mention them as ACII brotherhood and revelations since they are still chapters in the Ezio storyline and it makes more sense to rope them in with ACII since they aren't really standalone storylines.

I'd say go to black flag ASAP, What bores me is the repitive tail, listen in and assassinate formula, really need to get more creative.

I didn't feel like there were too many of those in Black Flag that it became boring, but then I haven't played the previous AC's so I guess if those missions feature substantially in those then I can understand the annoyance.

Well, I'm playing through AC:Revelations now on XBOX360 and then I'll move on to AC:3 on the XBOX360 as well.

After that I'll play AC:4 on PC which the wifey bought me for father's day :)

sorry for the semi-necro.

Personally i would not skip AC3 if i were you.

I enjoyed the Game as well as all the new features it had to offer. Sure AC4 might be better, but you can hunt in AC3 :) what more do you need in an AC game.

I finished Black Flag the other night, now I'm giving AC3 another go - going from Kenway to Connor is painful.
At least my horse hasn't got stuck in the trees again so far.
