Hey guys.
So I've been wanting to do this for awhile now but didn't get any time, but now that I do I'd like to share my thoughts on pc cases with you all
As you guys know I build my fair share of custom gaming pc's, my work life pretty much revolves around that so I get to work with every piece of pc hardware available. This obviously means I deal with pc cases on a daily basis and I've built in well over 100 different cases in my life.
Things to remember:
a PC case is as important as the rest of the components especially when you are filling it with R20 000 worth of parts, don't skimp on the case, while it may be true that if you buy a cheaper case you can end up saving money and putting it towards more/better/faster hardware at the end of the day you'll have a pc with fantastic components that aren't working as they should due to poor airflow, bad cable management, tight fit for your high end component...The list goes on and on.
You also need to bare in mind the amount/size of parts that you want to fit in the case and also be sure to buy a case that is "future proof". A case is one of the few pc components that can actually be "future proof" and you need to keep that in mind.
When doing your build make sure to choose a case that scores well in the airflow department, look for something that offers everything you want and more, don't be afraid to spend a little bit more if your gonna end up getting a better case. R200 extra can usually net you a much better chassis than the one you were looking at. Don't take my word for it, just test it out...Pick a chassis you like and then add R200 and see what you can end up with, you'll generally end up with a much better case, for only R200 more.
Over the last year or so the M-ITX and M-ATX cases have been the rage but that trend is slowing down now, although its nice to have a small size pc, it really does stop you from expanding and upgrading hardware. So you'll be forced to get a bigger case a year down the line, so you've essentially wasted cash.
Buy once and buy smart, don't base your purchase on the fact that you attend the Rage lan once a year, so you want something small that's easy to carry ONCE A YEAR. Look at cases with handles ( Bitfenix Survivor, CM Trooper/Stryker, CM Scout I/II) for your lanning needs.
When building a case for a client I tend to try and fit the absolute best case for their needs, this usually means steering clear of any of the smaller budget orientated cases, Just to be clear though there are some smaller less expensive cases that are actually rather good value for money.
Be smart, Do research and buy once.
Now the case I've fallen in love with
Personally I've owned pretty much every single case you can think of, from low end to ultra high end and recently got the pleasure to use what I consider the best case money can buy, a case so aesthetically pleasing that I've actually sat down next to it a few times and just looked at it.
I was fortunate enough to get a Corsair 760T sponsored by Rebeltech. I've wanted this case for as long as I can remember but I was put off by the initial launch price of R2700. I pushed it aside and carried on working with my Corsair Air 540, fantastic case as well, incredibly well thought out piece of kit. The day the 760T arrived...I pulled off the black corsair protective cover and just admired it, its a thing of beauty.
The corsair 760T is what I consider to be the perfect pc case.
It has ample space, you can fit pretty much any amount of hardware in this bad boy.
It has fantastic cable management.
It has tons of HDD and SSD bays, making storage a breeze.
It fits even the biggest motherboards and coolers.
It comes with 3 high quality corsair fans. (These generally sell for around R130 a pop)
The thing that sets it apart for me are the doors, the windowed side panel that has a handle molded into it, the gorgeous sharp angled stands, the sleek stealth top cover that reduces fan noise by 40%, the gorgeous indented front panel with the led fans clearly visible, the high quality power and reset buttons, the 4 USB slots on the fron panel, the stealth DVD rom bay.
I can honestly say its one of the most striking PC cases I've had the pleasure of owning and I can finally see why the price is what it is, there is really no other case that offers these features while looking as gorgeous as this case.
