I'd say no. I bought Warlock Master of the Arcane and can't play it because it crashes the whole time. There was a thread like that on the Steam forums but only a few people were affected. Most games have some problems and I generally don't have problems on my machine.

I bought it and can't play it. Am I to blame? Of course not.
 
Short answer is yes. Unfinished, buggy games is a part of today's gaming culture. I think it's the reason Alpha and beta stage games like Rust and Dayz are popular, they are what they are. You know you're purchasing something incomplete, your expectations of the level of incompletion is either met or not.

That's actually a very good point - looking deeper than what the poll is actually asking.

If you accept and don't hold game developers to task for releasing shoddy games, then you by extension endorse their existence and thus it is actually your fault.

Perhaps not on a specific-case basis, but it does form part of the problem. Deep, bro.

Unfinished, buggy games are a part of gaming culture in as much as the prevalence of TB is a part of South African culture.

Thank goodness for a few honest developers who openly sell you access to alpha and beta with the caveat of it being a work in progress. I don't buy into those because I don't like paying to be a tester, and then I'm thoroughly bored of the game by the time it hits full release.

Do you know beforehand? If so then sure some of the blame lies with you. If we supply a mine with a product and they're not happy with the welding they send the thing back.
 
I guess I'd say I'd accept full responsibility for the money I decide to spend on whatever product. In today's day and age it's basically an unfortunate necessity to do some research before buying. I've never really held resentment for a publisher if a game didn't live up to my expectations or was significantly affected by bad optimisation or bugs. Everything sold everywhere is there to make money and from a business perspective I can understand it to an extent. As wrong as it is, I don't see it changing any time soon. I never preorder PC games anymore because I've been burned too many times in the past and it's the only format you can't return or trade in if you aren't satisfied, and therefore it is also the only format I "try before I buy" :p. So yeah, I can relate and understand the frustration, but at the end of the day it's solely my decision to part with my hard earned money and I accept the consequences if I make a bad decision ;).
