Great!

Comics from that era are tough to get through, but they are essential reads. Once I got over the amount of texts and recaps, it was a great read.

Ya bro they are excellent, im just really hating the whole, "when you died Jean (Jean Grey was presumed dead in uncanny X-men 136) bla bla bla..." So i see what you saying about the "recaps"

PS: Logged on today and went to look at those specials and saw they ended today... Couldn't help myself... "whistling:

Ja that gets annoying. Great overall story and the old school artwork is pretty good too.

Did you guys see the comic bundle on Humble's site?

There are some good books in there. There are lots of books on there, they reckon about $288 worth of stuff.
Here's some info on the bundle:

  • Cryptozoic Man #1-4 is a comic series that spun out of an episode of Comic Book Men, which is created by the cast.
  • The first volume of Red Sonja is written by Gail Simone (who is also doing Batgirl) and is getting pretty high praise. Check that out.
  • Kevin Smith's (Silent Bob) Green Hornet has two volumes in this deal and is supposedly pretty good. I have a thing for pulp comics.

Check it out. As mentioned in the article somewhere else on the site, you pay $15 for a LOT of comic books, including 36 issues of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time vol.1 (I'm looking at you, Dee).

I reckon I'll get it. 131 comics and two graphic novels for $15 sounds like a steal to me.

I saw that and decided against it. It looks like Dynamite basically took over what used to be Chaos comics, and those were the most awful pieces of crap I have ever read. The obvious exception being The Boys.

Although, I bought the Image comics bundle and have read a couple of those books. I really enjoyed Chew and Fatale - I am considering buying into those series, especially Fatale. I love that cosmic horror element. Morning Glories can be summed up in two words: Utter Crap.

Perhaps I was a bit strong in my opinions in the previous post, which I believe is contrary to the spirit that has been maintained in this thread.

Let me rephrase: I didn't enjoy the old Chaos comics and that's what put me off the Dynamite bundle, that being said Dynamite has done some awesome stuff in the last decade including The Boys.

Also, I didn't enjoy Morning Glories from the Image bundle - it was too teen-angsty for me. Didn't like that. Fatale and Chew are awesome though!

I finished the entire Gothtopia event over the weekend. Pretty good core story, just got a little confused with Batgirl's timeline (since both her book and Birds of Prey tie-in to the series. Still, I enjoyed it and I have read worse.

Other things that I've read since I last posted:

Copernicus Jones: Robot Detective (Monkeybrain)
D4VE (Monkeybrain)
Harbinger #1-22 (Valiant)

Then I also picked up Grayson #1, which I'll probably get around to in the next few days.

Yeah, Dynamite doesn't have the biggest arsenal when it comes to stellar books, but there are some stand-outs.

Chew and Fatale are really good, books that you should keep at, if you can. I have Morning Glories vol. 1 on my shelf, will get around to it eventually.

The Walking dead Has an EPIC conclusion to an awesome Arc!

The new arc is really awesome and so much is happening! More of you need to get stuck in! "whistling:

Heh. One day I'll get stuck in there. There is so much stuff to read right now, but luckily, it isn't going anywhere.

So. I went to Icon yesterday (on top of being a gaming geek and comic geek, I'm also a tabletop RPG and board game geek), and I chatted with the guys from Cosmic Comics. Such nice guys. I ended up buying Arkham Asylum and Archie in the afterlife from them. They were extremely passionate about their comics and have a great selection. I know Avenged has recommended them a couple of times, but I'll second that recommendation.

Otherwise, Icon was great (maybe some you guys also went?). I spent too much money, but it was great fun :D

Dammit, I missed ICON. This was the year that I promised myself I would stop by there. I have to admit, I saw no advertising anywhere (and I have a pretty broad information channel). Oh well, next year then.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I love me some Cosmic Comics. Great store, great people. Give them your money if you want something comic/geek related.

In recent years, they haven't advertised at all. The only reason I knew it was on was because I actively scoured the internet for information regarding Icon, and I knew that it would be somewhere in July. The only way to keep updated is through their facebook group. Search for them there, you should find it and will probably get notifications for next year if you join. Sorry I didn't announce this BEFORE the weekend :P Ah, the beauty of hindsight.

Cosmic comics are holding a Batman day this coming Saturday in celebration of his 75th birthday. I think they will be having specials on Batman-themed stuff, so check it out.

Ja, lots of places are. But their events are always rocking. Always a great turnout and people put some effort in by dressing up. Also, make a day of it and head the Thunder Gun after you're done on Saturday.

My brother-in-law raves about Thunder Gun. Apparently they have the best steaks on that side of Joburg. I've gotta try them.

we only ever go there for their burgers. :) wil you be there on saturday? i mean at cosmic comics...

I would love to go. But I'm leaving for Durban early Saturday morning.

I do go to Cosmic Comics once a month, though. I tend to end up with a burger and a Guinness afterwards. Are you going?
