Dinosaur hunting game The Stomping Land disappears

From what I understand they are porting the game over to the Unreal engine. On its current engine it was very technically limited, the dev said they are working on porting it over, not sure on a time frame though.

I personally don't buy it. I think he has taken the money and run. I'd bet he is just buying himself time before a class actopn lawsuit is brought against him.

That would be an interesting case. What does Kickstarter's fine print say about projects that fail? And regarding early access, do you buy the final product or do you buy the current version together with a handful of promises and butterfly kisses?

Maybe Steven Spielberg killed all their dinosaurs

In the case of Kickstarter, you are supposed to deliver what you promise. There is legal recourse for people cheated by failed or fraudulent kickstarter projects.

Early access on the other hand has fine print stating that the game may never be finished and you buy the game voetstoots.

I'm not entirely sure how far along this one was, but what's the chance of the dev just releasing the thing as is and saying "here's your final release, sorry it's a bit buggy, kthxbai"?

To my knowledge, kickstarter stipulates that the delivered products should work as promised and be feature-complete. Stomping land is neither in its present state. So theoretically devs shouldn't be able to just dump anything and get away with it. But many do.

I was reading this article and noticed I could click on links to relevant things!!!

How far along was this? Well, it released on Steam at the end of May. It got a tiny hotfix a few days later aaaaand... that's it. Nothing after that.

If you ask me, this guy pulled a fast one. He hasn't spoken to any of his developers or anyone else since release and his PR guy's contract expired on release. This was a scam from the start. Just a pity I shelled out the money for it.

Does look like a scam. I can only hope the people that invested in this through Kickstarter and Early Access get most of their money back or that he is criminally charged, at least. If he gets away scot free, it could be a greenlight for the next group of scammers to pull the same stunt.

It's already playable. But nowhere near what was promised in the kickstarter. Even actions that have been shown to be possible in "gameplay" videos still aren't in the game.

I'm glad that I only paid about R150 for it. We did get one good evening's worth of gameplay out of it so not done in too badly, but I hope a lot of crap comes his way.

Update: And it's gone again. This time the entire store page was removed.

Here's the last message Vlad (the lead artist/modeler) left on the forums in Jan.

Hello everybody!
I'm sad to say this but I have to temporarily freeze all my work for TLS project. More than a month has passed since the day when I received the last reply from Jig. I've sent him 5 messages and haven't got any single reply. I don't know, probably he has some serious reasons to ignore me (and whole community) but to my mind there are no excuses for such behavior. Not to mention the fact that Jig owes me the money, he's put me in a very difficult situation because now I will have to pay our texture artist for his work from my own pocket.

If this silence continues I will stop my participation in TSL and start taking the necessary measures to cover my expenses (sell the models for example).

Wow, this guy obviously did take the money and run. The game had promise, sad to see another dev not in it for the actual game.
