Comic Books

I'm in the same position. The former greats just don't do it for me anymore. The writing is generally bad, which is unfortunate cause I have so many fond memories of Marvel and DC comics.
There are some big 2 books that I do want to read.

Rocket Raccoon, MS. Marvel , Ghost Rider, Swamp Thing, Grayson, etc. But I'll get those digitally or in trades.

Say, you want to compare notes when we do the course?

Ja, I guess there are some good things on offer still, but most of them are quite old, not much new and good stuff that I've seen from Marvel/DC.

Yup, we can do the comparing notes thing :D

Do you have some of the books that the course covers?

Wow, this is a late reply. Sorry about that :P

I own the following books:
- Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns
- Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's Watchmen
- Neil Gaiman, et al., Sandman, Volume 3: "Dream Country."
- Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Stables, Saga, Vol 1.

I have access to the following (i.e. my brother owns)
- Art Spiegelman's Maus
- Bill Willingham, et al., Fables, Volume 1: "Legends in Exile."

How about you?

Good going. I have most of the course material, just not Ware's Building Stories. I've tried to order it a few years ago, but it was too expensive.

Cool beans. I'm sure that's enough to get the right idea. I might look into getting some of the other stuff at some point.

Yeah. I see you don't need any of those books to go through the course, but it won't hurt to have them and give them another read through.

I'm pumped for this

Me too. My bro is also going to be joining and he is far more insightful than I am so I reckon his input is going to be valuable.

Jeez, I have a lot to catch up on, haven't read much in the way of comics like 3 - 4 months . Still halfway with Superman Birthright, need to catch up on JL, Batman, Superman, Batman and Superman, and I have to start Saga soon (I'm sweating just thinking about this ).

Also, does anyone have a link for this course you guys are referring to:)?

Guys and girls, what are your thoughts on the whole Spider-Woman pose debacle?

Here's an interesting (if rather passionate view):

I think it is a great piece of art and that someone has to be really talented to get something like that on paper. I'm tired of the entire sexist debate in all forms of entertainment. I'm not for any person getting shat on or anything, but I'm tired of arguing about it. If a drawn ass of an imaginary character offends you, I think you have the wrong form of entertainment as a hobby. I just like playing games and reading comics without people getting angry at what I'm doing.

Oh, also, our class starts next week. Who's registered?

Yeah, that's the thing about this whole sexism and misogyny discussion, I'm all for it because those things exist in the industry, but what I'm not for is trying make everything a sexism of misogyny issue...

I'm signed up and ready for class by the way :)
