Deadpool Movie: 2016!

In anticipation for this movie I went ahead and acquired a couple of Deadpool comics. I started reading it last night and haven't really noticed the extreme violence and language you guys refer to. I get the wit and sarcasm and his love for women, but I can see how they'll be able to open it up to a wider audience with a PG13 rating.
Look at UNCANNY X-Force (Remender's run) for some Deadpool violence. Also, 'Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe' has some cracking violence in it.

I may be speaking out of context here so please forgive me in advance, but from what I understand with comics is the character is licensed to the publisher so they can easily allow other artists and writers to create their own versions of the character and stories.

The Big2 (Marvel and DC) own all the characters that they publish, regardless of who created them or who has done stories with them. They can basically do whatever they want. Other publishers, like Image, focus on creator-owned work and all rights belong to the creators.

Now with the movie rights, Marvel owns the characters outright and license some of them to Fox (stupid move, but that was before Marvel Studios and Disney started their thing), like FF, X-MEN and Spider-Man. Seeing that Deadpool classifies as an X-Man, Fox has rights to make a movie about him. They have creative freedom with the character, but so long as it adheres to the... Um... 'character' of the character.

Interesting other bit of info on this: Marvel is trying to reduce the attention and exposure of characters that are licensed to Fox, in an effort to make them worth less money. They can then buy them back, like they did with Daredevil. Fantastic Four have no presence in the comics at the moment and don't feature in any Marvel promotional material any more. Then there is Wolverine
Spoiler: show
who is going to die in the coming months and stay away for an indefinite time

Getting rid of free marketing for Fox means less income for their movies, making it cheaper to buy the licenses back. Just a little extra info that I thought might be relevant in this thread.

EDIT: Shit sorry guys, didn't mean to type an essay.

No problem dude, I enjoyed your essay - learned quite a bit of comicbook geekiness to share with the team at work tomorrow. :D

You really are the resident CBG, aren't you? ;)

I cant wait for this! A Deadpool Movie has been a LOOOONG time coming! He has to be the most hilarious comic book character to date! Even though that trailer has a bit of a "cheesey" style to it, i think anything Deadpool will sell and will sell well, especially if they follow his comic book persona, and dont hold back on anything...

i have just started reading "CABLE AND DEADPOOL" and i really enjoying it! once i am done, gonna get the Deadpool game to absorb more of the character.

I've actually been meaning to track down some Deadpool comics to see what the character is all about because I keep seeing stuff about him all over the internet.

Based on internet popularity, I'm sure the movie will make tons of money, even if it sucks. Hopefully it doesn't suck though

Just watched the "trailer".
Excuse me while I go to the corner and scream like a thirteen year old girl at a One Direction concert.

Guys, remember: that's only test footage (not a trailer yet), hence why it looks so unpolished. They haven't filled one little kB of storage space with footage yet. That being said, I can't wait for the actual trailer to make its way to the intertubes.

EDIT: Also, I mentioned this scene a while ago. Check it out. Don't look if you're squeamish

Spoiler: show

Now they need to make a Deathstroke movie. I started reading both Deadpool and Deathstroke at the same time and, to be honest, I'm enjoying Deathstroke's badassitude a lot more.

Did you know that Deadpool was inspired by Deathstroke? He's even named Wade Wilson, as opposed to Deathstroke's Slade Wilson.

So I've started reading some Deadpool comics to see what all the fuss is about. I think this could possibly be a pretty awesome movie if they pull it off
