I'll carry on trying. It's just that you can spend so much time building yourself up only to have the computer heroes squash you in seconds.

Oh.....because the computer player seems to get more artifacts and resources and usually has a bigger army than I do. I play on the easiest setting.
Only on harder difficulty.

Difficult to attack the enemy earlier on if you don't have much of an army.
