Yes, I've lost an Xbox to an RROD hardware failure, and my boyfriend's just bricked a couple of days ago for the same reason. The newer models are supposed to be less prone to this failure. There's no such thing as electronic equipment that is guaranteed not to fail, though. Make sure you get the proof of purchase slip from MyGaming, and keep it. The fault is covered by a three year warranty.
