What is the best game you played but didn't enjoy?

Trying to put a spin on the other thread.

By "best" I'm most referring to critics' / general public's scores and opinions.

So, what's the best rated game that many raved about, but you just couldn't get into despite having sincerely tried by sinking a few decent hours into it?

For me: Bioshock. I stopped at the level with the "gardens". By that point I just gave up. I couldn't get why everyone loved it so much. I found the game to be an inferior FPS by FPS standards, and inferior RPG by RPG standards, and an inferior scary game by scary game standards.

Bioshock Infinite.

I finished it, but found it tedious and only finished it to see what happened in the end.
The only thing it had going for it was its story, and even then it wasn't that good.

Bioshock on the other hand was absolutely brilliant.

Holy crap, I stopped at the exact same spot (which is quite a bit into the game) and felt exactly the same way.
Its suckiness as a shooter bothered me the most though... it didn't feel like you were shooting anything and kind of reminds me of those internet adverts that ask you to shoot a target 5 times and you can win an ipad.

I'll have to say just about every MMO I've ever tried. I start getting bored within the first few hours and can never find anything that motivates me to keep going. I also don't like any of the Elder Scrolls games, mostly for the same reasons, I just find the quests and the combat tedious.

Guess I may as well add Dota and all Dota clones as well, much as I've tried, I just don't enjoy those games.

I agree with Bioshock infinite. I don't see where all the fuss came from. I've tried two more times to finish it but haven't been able to yet, maybe I won't. Tedious as Pooky said. Story doesn't count for much if the gameplay puts you off playing.

Same Bioshock Infinite was awesome story wise but terrible atmosphere. Finished it in one sitting just to see what happens in the end was not disappointed with the ending at all.

Just smiled big when the ending came and I was like yep I knew it I freaking knew it.

The warhammer 40k thing. I recall play 2 - not sure which. The one had base building and was OKish. The Dawn of War ones were utterly crap imo.

Assassin Creed - didn't get it & got pissed of at the lame combat. Planning on having another shot at it though because I think maybe I didn't give it a fair chance. Plus it was eye patch edition while I've now got them on steam. ;)

I didn't really get in to CoD: Black Ops a few years ago. I tried. I thought it would be interesting because it was set in a different time to other CoD games before it. I played maybe an hour of that game at most and then just never touched it again. I tend to avoid most multiplayer-focused games. The last CoD game that I really enjoyed was World at War. I just don't play them anymore.

The entire Assassin's Creed series... What a load of repetitive nonsense... The first one was fun and "new" but when you realise that, basically, they're rewashing the same mechanics, the same gameplay and dragging the same bloody story out further and further the less you enjoy it and the more you realise it's just a way to make as much money out of an IP as possible.

But there are many, many games I didn't enjoy...

Also, The Elder Scrolls series because every game in that series has been a fucking terrible RPG but a great open-world adventure.

Super Meat Boy.

The hype made me want this game so badly and then it just wasn't fun at all.

Another one is Kameo. Gamespot gave it 8.7/10 but it was so bad.

L.A. Noire. Besides the awesome facial animations, the game felt rather boring.
For me, it felt like a slower version of point and click mystery game

Now the next one will cause a bit of debate:
Let me first say that I've grown up playing fighting games, and have played quite a bit of Mortal Kombat actually.
But it feels like the character's joint have entered rigour mortis even before the fatality.
Even Jin in Tekken has more fluid movement :wtf:

Ah! I also forgot about Dishonored! It was a struggle to play through it. I liked the setting but the game itself was very boring and tedious.

Yes, Dishonoured was much better when you forgot about stealth and went in all guns blazing.

I have to disagree... But this is what the fun thing about a game that gives you options is. I first stealthed my way through then went in guns blazing. I enjoyed the stealth approach significantly more.

One of them would be Divinity: Ego Draconis. My gawd, the graphics in some places were horrifying, it was riddled with bugs,
and it could have really used some more attention with the skills/abilities and the story wasn't fantastic either.

But... wow.... it was so addictive despite its flaws. So fun!

I played the entire game throughout a weekend...

Metal Gear Solid 4, probably one of if not the worst (highly rated) games I have played on my PS3. The story was boring and the 40 odd minute cutscenes didn't really help at all. Gameplay was mediocre as well IMO. Maybe If I had played all the ones before it I would have felt different about it, but I only played MGS1 and then 4 and I hated 4 even though I loved 1.

Virtue's Last Reward (on the Vita). Another really boring "game". If I wanted a book I would have bought one is pretty much all I need to say about this one.

Any God of War, except maybe 1. I enjoyed the first game, but after that everything just went South. I don't like Kratos as a character and I don't like the story either. Both Dante's Inferno and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow were much better than GOWIII IMO. I haven't played Ascension yet, but I'm sure it won't make me change my opinion of the series.

Any Gears of War after 1. I liked the first Gears of War, it was one of the first games I finished on console and I enjoyed it from start to finish (maybe not the final boss fight, that took FOREVER to get past). The sequels just all feel like exactly the same game to me. I haven't played Judgment yet, but it also won't change my opinion.

I have a few more, but I want to go play GTA now... :p

You're in the wrong thread :D

Wrong thread. This is the '"best game (by popular opinion)" that you felt sucked' thread :p

Think you were looking for this one: http://mygaming.co.za/forum/showthr...ayed-but-actually-enjoyed?p=826989#post826989

But yeah, I LOVE the Divinity series and The Dragon Knight Saga was a fantastic adventure for me.

Damnit, Eugene beat me to it :p
