I also hate 2 point plugs wish they were just the normal plugs.

International compatibility. I've been overseas a few times and generally my 2 pin point fits the wall just fine. South Africa is a little backwards with its massive 3 pin plug, so I think most manufacturers would rather use existing tech and use a simple 2 pin plug. I just think it's no feasible to make a cellphone charger using our standards.
The new 3 pin design should help with this.

The worst is when its a stupid "round" plug ... and all your adapters/converters have the hexagonal shape that means even though its 2-pin, ITS NOT GONNA FIT!

Was also going to mention the new standard of the "2 pin with a third pin" thing, looks like a 2 pin but has an Earth connection... IT just makes more sense... The 2 pin plugs if used like they were designed with the earth are actually way better because they are so much more compact...
But i feel your pain, The 2 pin plugs on the lamps next to my bed have to constantly be wiggled to work...
Buy a proper adapter. The CEE 7/16 "Europlug" (Type C) is a standard registered plug, however manufacturers (especially in Asia and Russia) really apply the standard loosely. I believe that our move to IEC 60906-1 from the old BS 546 (SABS 164-3) standard is mainly due to SA being part of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) where Brazil and Russia predominantly use IEC 60906-1 and CEE 7/16 sockets respectively.
Prepare for LOADS of cheap Russian and Brazilian power products in the near future
Two pin plugs are fine as long as you have the slotted connections for them and not the old school adapters...
