And so, with the year rapidly coming to a close, we look back at the good, the bad, and the ugly of the year in gaming. During the past few months, we posted threads for you to vote for particular games in certain categories, and this thread it to bring it all together. Here we list all the winners (and losers) as voted for by you, the esteemed MyGaming Forum reader.

MyGaming Best Game Story of 2016:
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine
This wasn't even a close race, as The Witcher 3 DLC races away with it. A DLC pack more in the style of the old expansion packs added so much more story to an already amazing game that the MyGaming people decided it was the very best in narration experience for 2016

Honorable mention:
Final Fantasy XV

MyGaming Best Indie Game 2016:
Stardew Valley
This quirky Animal Farm clone came out of nowhere to win the hearts and minds of so many people in 2016. And to think, this game was made by one person only! Truly amazing

Honorable mentions:
Firewatch
INSIDE

MyGaming Best South African Developed Game 2016:
Broforce
Although not really released in 2016, Broforce has been the most successful gaming export South Africa has ever produced. You only need to play for a few minutes to understand the pure awesomeness of this game. Strange how a bunch of people from SA out-America any other international gaming developers.

Honorable mentions:
Genital Jousting
Among the Innocent: a Stricken Tale

MyGaming Best Action/Adventure Game 2016:
Rise of the Tomb Raider
A close race, but Lara's latest adventures swings into the winning spot for this category, beating great games such as Dark Souls 3 and Uncharted 4. Rise of the Tomb Raider released finally onto the PS4 in 2016, bringing with it a new anniversary edition.

Honorable mentions:
Dark Souls 3
Uncharted 4

MyGaming Best RPG 2016:
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
Another landslide victory for the added content to The Witcher. Some stiff competition couldn't detract it from winning it's second award for the year.

Honorable mentions:
Final Fantasy XV
Grim Dawn

MyGaming Best Fighting Game 2016:
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Dragon Ball Xenoverse brought delight to the lives of button-mashers everywhere as it wins this category.

Honorable mention:
Street Fighter V

Let us break for intermission, and we'll be back shortly with the next round of winners...

Welcome back...we continue with the next set of winners:

MyGaming Best Strategy Game 2016:
Civilization VI
"Just one more turn" is the phrase that perfectly sums up Civ games. One doesn't simply start up a Civ game without donating at least 10 hours of your life to it. The latest installment brought with it a new coat of paint, and some welcome changes to the traditional Civ formula.

Honorable mention:
XCOM 2

MyGaming Best Family Game 2016:
The Jackbox Party Pack 3
A unique game playable by the whole family. Yes, even your extended family, and those annoying little cousins and uncles of your, and yes even their extended family. Hell, just bring in 1000's of people and they all can join in on the fun.

Honorable mentions:
Lego Marvel's Avengers
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

MyGaming Best Mobile/Handheld Game 2016:
Pokemon Go
The phenomenon that took the world by storm. Never has a mobile game gotten so many people out in the streets, flooding news headlines, and creating a global addiction to catching them all. One of the most important games of our time

Honorable mention:
Batman: The Telltale Series

MyGaming Best Racing Game 2016:
Forza Horizon 3
Charging ahead of the pack, Forza's latest installment took the franchise to Australia, and brought us one of the prettiest games of the year. How the hell the Xbox One managed to render this game is beyond me.

Honorable mention:
F1 2016

MyGaming Best FPS Game 2016:
Doom
Doom is the grand father of FPS games, and the latest installment didn't disappoint. The fluid motion, tremendous graphics, incredibly fun gameplay mechanics and amazing single player makes this one of the must-play games of 2016.

Honorable mention:
Battlefield 1

MyGaming Best Sport Game 2016:
Steep
Sneaking in at the end of the year, the action filled Steep beats out the enormously successful FIFA series for the best Sports game of 2016. It's adventure sports theme, huge map and bone-crushing stunts makes it perfect game for the holiday break

Honorable mention:
FIFA 17

MyGaming Multiplayer game of the year 2016:
Overwatch
Blizzard really brought out their A game when they gave us Overwatch. Overnight this hero based shooter became one of the biggest multiplayer games ever, and almost immediately cemented it's place as a competitive shooter. The Blizzard polish really shines brightly in this title.

Honorable mention:
Battlefield 1

MyGaming Most hyped game for 2017:
Mass Effect: Andromeda
2017 is sure to be a great year for gaming with so many games to look forward to. Mass Effect tops the hype train in the MyGaming community, with Red Dead Redemption 2 just behind.

Honorable mention:
Red Dead Redemption 2

MyGaming Worst Game of the Year 2016:
Anything Digital Homicide did
Digital Homicide lived up to their name, as they churned out piles and piles of garbage month after month. The childish behavior of this developer lead to Valve removing all their games from Steam, law suits, online vitriol and threats, and just so much negativity. The world is a better place without them

Dishonorable mention:
Mighty No. 9

MyGaming Biggest Disappointment of the Year 2016:
IT'S A TIE
No Man's Sky and SA game retail prices
So much has been said about the disappointment of NMS already. It's a pity, as the Foundation patch did bring with some crucial content, but sadly, there was no way it would ever have lived up to the hype.
The prices of games in SA has broken the hearts and dreams of many Saffers. Games reaching the R1000 mark for both consoles and PC is put severe strain on the wallets of gamers around the country. Thank goodness for specials then...

Dishonorable mention:
Virtual Reality

MyGaming Game of the Year 2016:
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
The best game that was played by the community of MyGaming was The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine. It is clear that CD Project Red knows how to create sublime games and engrossing content for those games. Adding 20+ hours of gameplay, new quests, stories, maps and more, Blood and Wine ended up feeling like a new game itself.

Honorable mentions:
Dark Souls 3
Overwatch
Forza Horizon 3

And finally...

hahaha... I didn't do anything, tis all a collaborative effort from everyone. No one person made this place great, the community is the collective, we are all great.

I think all the winning games are all well deserved...well, except Game of the Year. I still maintain that a DLC shouldn't be nominated, but hey, so the community voted. And what would we be without the community. I'm really glad Steep got the nod above FIFA, that was a bit of a surprise for me. Also Rise of the Tomb Raider beating both Dark Souls and Uncharted...well done Ms. Croft

I kind of agree on the sentiment that DLC shouldn't be nominated for GOTY, but considering the fact that Blood and Wine is longer than a lot other games' single player campaigns I think its' nomination is justified.

EDIT : I quoted the wrong post by mistake. Also, NBA should have won best sport game, nothing on the market can compare with it. But seems nobody here but me played it.
