10 open-world games that fell flat

The comments on Andromeda are nonsense. The facial animations were fixed shortly after launch, for one. The side quests were a little tedious, but it was still a good game. Just because it didn't live up to the original trilogy isn't reason on its own the crap all over it.

I am certainly not thankful the series is on hold...

As soon as a game goes open world the story gets "diluted" or becomes less immersive or even lost between everything. Bethesda's open world games are a good example because I'm so busy with side quests that I'm not even sure what the story is about. I'm not saying they're bad games but the story simply doesn't even compare to something like the first Mass Effect games for example.
The only game that I can think off that got it right by going open world while still keeping an awesome story is Witcher 3, but they are the exception, not the norm.

Mass Effect Andomeda was ok. I liked the story (when I eventually got to the story parts) but has zero replayability which is something a lot of open world games also suffer from. It would have been much better if they used their previous formula and perhaps not use the same engine as Dragon Age (if I wanted to play Dragon Age, I'd play Dragon Age).

Very true. I started a 2nd playthough wanting to get my platinum trophey. Got to the point where I can open all the loot boxes you get from apex missions, and left it there. Also stopped MP when they said "no more updates". Haven't even unlocked the latest character.

N7 day (November 7th) is gonna be depressing for Mass Effect junkies like me this year.
