100Mbps fibre broadband for R570 per month

Oh this is getting better and better, still not available anywhere near my house though

I would grab that 300GB for R795 for sure

...although do those prices include the line rental or is it just bandwidth?

Yeah I'd also like to get this. Unfortunately this will not be coming to my area any time soon.

it would be great if there were actual more areas and not just gated communities.

Well, they have to start somewhere, and they need to get buy in from enough people in an area to make it economically viable to invest so much money to get the infrastructure in place, but there should be more and more areas being added as time goes on.

The emerging FTTH trend is a really good thing for our country. An increasing number of ISPs are started to come up with viable strategies to roll out fibre networks. It's about time copper became obsolete. And of course, the more commercialized, the cheaper it becomes. And there's just so much more room for contention expansion with gigabit backbones.

Hell yes! :D

dont get me wrong :) im glad its starting to grow.. just sad when I phoned Cybersmart they said sorry fiber in your area only expected later :(

Most of us will be dead or on pension before a fiber strand comes past our places of residence - it has been 3 years that I have been 287 meters from a possible fiber connection, and ZILCH progress since then ... , from a street side cabinet installation.

"It should be noted that these prices include line rental and data" States so in the article. The R795 for 300GB would be perfect for me. Now to find a house in one of those areas lol.

I was actually just reading the article again because it popped up on my FB feed, and I saw I missed that. Definitely makes it worthwhile, that's about what I pay at the moment for internet, and I'd save on not having to have a Telkom line

Is it more reliable than a telkom line?
We have a fibre connection at work that got damaged by some construction work. It's been like 4 months and it's still not repaired! Even Telkoms faster than that lol

I guess that remains to be seen, and it will probably depend on who is providing your fiber if and when you can get it to your home. From what I've read, there's a race on between Telkom, Vumatel and Fibrehoods to get FTTH going in various parts of town, no doubt some will be better at maintenance than others. Fibrehoods is going with arial cables on existing street light poles, which I would imagine might be more susceptible to damage than subterranean cable, but also much easier, quicker and cheaper to install and fix.

Any way it goes, it's going to be a long time before any of this reaches my side of town, and by then we'll probably know more about reliability.

In an ideal world i would have signed up already... Its great to see lots of these "smaller" companies getting into the industry... The more players the more consumers benefit...

Oh ya, better to have some actual competition and let a free market drive prices than having a monopoly like Telkom be the only option and have them dictate prices to you.

Iv seen probably 4 or 5 different companies with boards up in different areas offering Fibre to home... It still makes me wonder how the can make any money off prices like this though...
