144hz Screens

Loading performance, once the game is in memory u wont notice the difference. But trust me/us, when u see how quickly u suddenly do that quarter mile, u wont ever go back!

I have the al' cheapo Crucial 128gb ssd - OS and 256gb Samsung - games

Sigh... now i am actually looking at prices and comparing... Still holding strong though!

I see an SSD in your future. :D

256GB is a kind of sweet spot, with 512GB being very nice but costly. Don't get a 128GB one.

You SHOULD! No gamer should still use mechanical hardrives, ever. :D Only for storage of large multimedia, of course.

I do, unless you play Battlefield still don't see the point. Games are loading fast enough for me.
SSD is the last thing to get when there's isn't much left to upgrade. I'd even get a bigger screen first.

The price still isn't right for me with regards to ssd

It isn't a must have as such, but it is a very, very nice to have. I didn't mind my Windows boot time when I still has my OS on a HDD, but now that I'm used to my SSD, switching on my wifes PC takes ages. The boot and load times are really a lot quicker.

You can live without it, but once you have it you wouldn't go back.
In terms of price, with the Rand/Dollar going the way it is the prices on hardware might go up pretty soon, even though SSD prices keep on going down.

SEE!! This is exactly what I was talking about... the Pressure... now I am actually starting to think that it might not be a bad idea....

I'm wondering why you went for a 144hz screen BEFORE you got an SSD upgrade :p

PRIORITIES MAN, PRIORITIES!

Luckily I only play CSGO, The odd Dota and HOTS every now and again. But mainly just CSGO, so FPS and HZ over SSD =D I will probably convert...

Like an hour later when he tried booting the pc :D

We've come to a gentleman's agreement that the ssd is now mine and that he will never open my pc and take it back.

Mmm not sure about getting an SSD anymore! Do not want to wait an hour before I notice the difference! Thanks DuckKnuckle for making my mind up for me!

This is a 144hz Thread not SSD Thread! :P

Haha :D sorry for the derailment! Glad you're enjoying the screen.

Flex are you noticing a big difference running the game at a higher refresh rate and higher framerate as opposed to 60hz refresh rate and higher frames?

There is a huge difference yes. It is super smooth. If you play on a 60hz you would think that it would not make a difference, and that it is good enough. Till you hop on a 144hz. Really does make a difference in FPS games. I do not think it would be necessary at all if you MMORPGS or any other kind of game. The Screen having more than twice the refresh rate enables you to see much more and much smoother allowing you to react quicker. Even if it is at such a small scale

number 1 reason I would look into a 120 or more hz monitor is entirely for FPS, to reduce screen tearing at higher fps :P

I just dont feel like needing to use Vsync for OTHER games that can't run at 100+ frames :/

Vsync and stuff like that cause lots of input lag does it not?

Awesome setup :). Two questions - What GPU are you using? Why do you have two PCs so close together?

The PC on the right is just a Download/Media center. Basically Runs 24.7 and downloads.
If the desk was bigger they would be further apart. I just move the Keyboard and mouse I don't use up a bit when I am playing.

I have a GT640 that is overclocked. Looking for a new GPU though. But as I mainly play CSGO and CSGO is a hugely CPU dependent game my CPU does more than enough.
