2014: Go F*ck Yourself

There's a GIF for that
I've never hated so many people in the gaming community in all my life.

Because of 2014, I learned to hate do-nothing, two-faced AAA game developers who have crafted a culture of brand loyalty that rewards consumers with self esteem points every time they stand up for one of these mega-million companies every time they sell us another pile of stale junk food hamburgers disguised as a "must have experience for every hardcore gamer". I've learned to hate prima donna indie game developers who put their ego before their work, spending more time mouthing off on Twitter than actually making anything. I've learned to hate self righteous, victim-blaming game enthusiasts who treat anyone who dares not to cater to their particular tastes like a violator of their civil rights.

I've learned to hate that Hatred is something that we think is worth talking about. I've learned to expect that everyone else in the vocal minority who bothers to use the Internet to talk about videogames is similarly filled with hate, and is fueled by all the self interested thinking and monstrous behavior that comes along with it.

I hate that I am preoccupied with hating all these things. I hate myself for it and I don't know what to do about that. So I'm going to start blaming people, including myself, and see if that helps.

Big game publishers

Big game publishers have fucked up the videogame community in ways that we may never recover from. They've used billions of dollars in marketing money to brainwash a legion of regular people into thinking that being a selfish, entitled little twat is cool and fun. They've tricked us into thinking that they love us when they give us free things like pre-order bonuses or giveaway games with subscription services, in the same way a crack dealer forms a bond of reciprocation with a new customer when they hand out free hits on a street corner.

I agree with most of this. 2014 was a pretty shitty year for the video game community.

Yeah also agree on some of these. Just look at all the broken half finish games we have seen lately.

He makes valid points, the thing is do you really feel affected by this whole debacle , yes I have noted AAA titles are becoming more and more buggy as they push to shove crap into our faces and tell us its awesome but there are alternatives and in the end its up to you to decide if you buy something or not, I mean who gives into must buy this game or else peer pressure.

People are always going to go ape on the internet in any way or form even if video games stopped existing, because its not really about the games I think its more about attention and ego.

As for the AAA publishers and gaming journalists, ya well as long as they can make money why would they care, yay capitalism and self centered western mind sets.

but this has all been stated before and argued to death about already.

2014 Was a pretty shitty year for me in general :p now i hope this year turns for me :D

Yup, I mentioned in the Happy 2015 thread that I also had a pretty crap 2014 - and my wife an even worse one. Her father and cousin both passed away during December and she's been on edge with me starting a new company - it's definitely not for the faint hearted (or those who fear debt).

Yeah not liking the trend of things. I've resigned myself to working around it though. eg I've stopped buying anything other than complete editions to skip the whole DLC and unfinished game mess.

And frankly I don't see any of that changing in 2015.

Still - is not all bad. Eg The new PC like console platforms are good news for ports.

On a more personal level - 2014 was OK I guess and 2015 is promising to be glorious :D

The context of gaming in 2014 was really shitty in general. However, from my perspective, it's pretty good for me at least. I won many bets on Dota and Counter Strike haha.
But in my general point of view, 2014 still sucks, I got many classes failed, and gotta save it later. rip me
