so seeing the samsung 23" screen is going for a nice price at kalahari, i'm thinking of upgrading my benq 17" to the samsung...

...now my question, dumb as it might be, is will my xfx 9600gt card be able to work with the lcd (yes, i know it'll work, but will i be able to play games at decent resolutions etc)?

will this be my worthwhile?

All I can say it will play some games at decent frame rate at 1080P. But, if you looking to play Crysis, time to upgrade.

If a game is running poorly at 1080P, you could try running the game at 720P.

I reckon, but you can kiss AA and high settings goodbye.

Have you considered picking up a second 9600 for SLI?

You'd need an SLi motherboard to do that, 9600gt suggest budget purchase, which in my opinion would be the same for the Motherboard? In which case = no SLi.

Just my thoughts

yup, slippery said about the mobo...

...mine doesn't support SLI, and i'm not really in the market for a new mobo at this time

but i'm happy that atleast the card will still work with the screen with decent settings (if not all high)

Max Res - 2560 x 1600 ........ hell yes it will play those games nicely ;) Not to mention going from 17" to 23" !

Not necessarily though. His GFX card will suffer with the new res when playing games as other have mentioned. But why not start putting some money away for a new GFX card....? There are some pretty nice ones going at very good prices...? And the increase in size from 17" to 23" will be ZOMG!

cool stuff...

...i'm actually pretty ok with playing games on med settings

i played crysis on my old gfx card with all low settings, so i'm sure i can handle this

..... Why I answered like I did was because of wizdumb's answer below. He wasn't asking if he could play max gfx on all teh games, woot!!! He was just asking if a 23" monitor would be made use of with his current card :D

damn, the price is now R1,845.95 from just over 1,5k...still not bad, but now i have to check prices first

Got a samsung 2494HS with a 9600gt and havnt had a problem with any games. I just put the texture quality on medium if game seems slow. But have to say i havnt tried crysis yet.
