2TB USB 3.0 drive… but it’s not for sale, yet

Who wants hard drives with these babies on the way...

Transcend and Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has developed a USB drive that has a capacity of 2TB. The 2TB thumb drive is called a Thin Card because it is thinner than the USB 3.0 interface that it uses. Transcend and IRTI have yet to officially release information about the drive or make a formal announcement but a video on Tom’s Hardware shows a 16GB version of the Thin Card with the unknown woman (apparently she is a rep) in the video explaining that the card will have a 2TB big brother available.

According to the female rep the drives have not become available on the market because Transcend and ITRI are waiting for the USB-IF to finalise some aspects of the USB 3.0 standard before releasing the new Thin Cards to the market.

Looks quite interesting. I remember hearing about some kind of new storage media in development that was basically a type of crystal and data stored on it was written and read in the forms of light similar to have Fiber Optics work. Not sure if this is true or not but always interesting to hear about new types of technologies coming out.

Looks quite cool would be great to not have to carry a big hardrive everywhere
 
I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy and apparently according to him its not that expensive. He said he'll be getting it for R1100 but somehow I find that hard to believe. Will see believe it when I see it.

That there should tell you exactly how far off those drives are, yes its possible, but real world application is probably to far off for mostconsumers... What you expect to pay for this? R1100 is a hope all i can say, you looking more at R3000+ its new and almost always expensive.
