3 ADSL packages gamers should check out before uncapped

Dude its easy to go way over 30gb with normal legal usage of the net. With a 4mb line im hosting most of the times mw2. That alone has been about 30GB this month. Strange thing is im on Afrihost uncapped and whe are on 74GB for the month no throttling yet. Dl new ATI drivers last night at 400kb/s.

And guys if you have a girlfriend who likes to facebook while you are experiencing mapathy then your cap will also fly.

I agree but most "normal/regular" gamers won't download a bunch of betas each month, maybe a beta every odd month.
True, only hardcore gamers would use more than that on average. In your original statement however you weren't very specific about what type of gamer you were talking about hence lots of people chirping you otherwise :)

If you are a gamer you shouldn't even reach 30GB a month.

My speeds on mweb 4mbps is fine and there is no throttling unlike the IS solutions. Was slightly slow during the time they were working on the seacom cable but I had no down time compared to some friends on IS isp accounts who had trouble just getting on the net. Once the work was done my inter net has been fast and stable as before.

Also its very easy to go over 30 gig. A bit of gaming, live video streaming, steam, browsing, ect. Its harder with uncapped to stay lower than 30 gig than to go over it.

So the general concession is that 30 gigs is way too little which it is and anyone insinuating that you can only do that amount doing illegal stuff is a moron
as its been said 30 gigs is way too little ,I mean I DL some HD trailers watched some TV shows online and bam I was at 20 gigs thats with out gaming ...the only way you could think that was enough is if you just stepped out of the dark ages .we have been doing more than 30 gigs way before UNCAPPED came out

These prices althou seem fair is a much of a muchness ...if you on Afrihost then your screwed but mwebs been fine since I switched to them and gaming has been more than stable.

Hehe, I've been around. WoW sucked my life away.... Yeah they changed it. It's now 50GB before some shaping and 100GB before your line is throttled.

On signing up to our Uncapped product you will get our standard ADSL service. (i.e. certain ports are shaped somewhat and web and email are prioritised.)

After you have moved 50 GBs you will be moved into a different category whereby certain ports will be shaped more aggressively. However, web and email will still be prioritised.

After moving a total of 100 GBs you will be moved into a different category where your line speed is throttled to 1024 kbps per second and certain shaping protocols are in place.

After moving a total of 150 GBs then you will be moved into a category where you will be throttled to 512 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 200 GBs you will be moved into a category where your line will be throttled to 386 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 250 GBs you will be moved into a category where you are throttled to 128 kbps.

You will never be capped.

Kind of failed to mention the fact that you get about 3 times the ping when using Web africa.
Get 20ping on IS BB and over 60 ping on Web Africa BB

Also it is capped uncapped. It is not called uncapped as long as you are a low end user. If they want you to only use 20gb then sell it as a 20gb account don't call it uncapped and hide clauses that shape you once you use more then what they think you should. Will be interesting to see what the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa says about it. kind of offering you DSTV for the whole month and advertising as 24/7 but you can only watch for an hour and half a day. (Taking the 100gb out of a possible 1.5tb downloadable in a month.)

I've heard plenty of complaints about MWeb's service levels so far. And I'm easy-going as far as caps are concerned - I've been living off 2GB a month for the past 2 years now, so I don't see myself suddenly shooting to 30+. For the time being, the 15GB cap I'm getting from WebAfrica is enough - should I need more I'll upgrade.

When the time comes.

Any new service will have the odd issue. But go and compare the complaints about mweb on mybb compared to afrihost/other IS based isp's and you will find mweb has the least of the complaints.

From what I've seen firsthand the product itself is good but the sneaky way they were billing people pre-May is pretty shocking. Billing for half the month even though there are only a few days left in April?
