38% of all Steam games were released in 2016

They really need to separate Steam into two ditinct versions. One for publisher and crowd backed games, and another version for speculative or greenlight type games. I'm all for more games but browsing through steam is such a mess right now that it's hurting sales for legitimately good games.

Can't remember the last time I just browsed through recent releases and top sellers looking for something good.

It's a bit sad because in theory it's a good thing that so many people are able to make and publish their games.

As you said however, with so much of it being released and most of it being only slightly above average at best - nobody benefits.

Your favourite game this year could have released as an indie game on Steam and you would know nothing of it.

I rely heavily on curators to point out what is good nowadays.

It is a full time job to evaluate all that is out there.
