Hey everyone :P

It's been a while since I've posted on MyGaming, so if this is out of place...don't shoot me "whistling:

I've been looking at TVs around the R14 000 mark, and I found this one:

It's 4K 55", so it looked like a steal. I know it isn't Samsung, LG or Sony (It is JVC), so I would just like to know if anyone on the forum has any experience with these TVs?

Also it is a smart TV which runs Android, do any of you have experience running these type of smart TVS or should I just go a few inches less with something like this (for a bit more)?

Samsung 50"(127cm) UHD Smart LED TV UA50HU7000 - R9 899 at Makro

Guzzle

This is the tv I was tempted to go out and pick up, but I'll have to sell my current tv first and currently I don't think it's worth the effort yet. Since It's the same size just with a lower res.

Firstly there is zero content for SA that broadcasts at 4k. DSTV is limited to 1080i, so you will be getting upscaled content. Streaming services like Netflix and Amazon do have 4k content but it is very limited (something like 10 shows total) and it needs 20Mb/s connections to stream.

4k Blu rays are set to release later this year hopefully.

Other than that 1080p content does look decent having being up-scaled almost 3 times it's resolution.

If you looking to use it for a gaming monitor on a PC I would personally go for a smaller size, 55" is massive and you will have to sit at-least 3 to 4 meters away from it.

Yeah I've thought about all that, but I have to get a my new TV now for a mixture of reasons, so I would rather get a 4K one than sit with a 1080p one for another while...

Keep in mind UHD & 4k are not the same thing...

Close but not the same, so just don't fall for hype dude and buy because Americans say UHD or 4k is fantastic.

If you have a relatively large tv and don't need one right now why rush it? :) the price will drop as the new tech is released you can prob pick one up in 2 years for much less ;)

IF however you need a tv or a second tv or a fourth tv or just want UHD quality go for it :)

Just came here to say that UHD & 4k isn't the same thing
