4mb/s and international gaming

So I'm about get my hands on a 4mb/s uncapped connection and I was wondering if playing games on overseas servers would still have those 500+ ping rates or if the higher bandwicth could compensate for the distance that usualy causes those high pings?

I had a 4mb line. Could play rts in international sites,but fps is really not good.

Yeah, RTS is great, but I had a look and you still get the 500+ pings, sorry. It's because of the distance that the packet has to travel this one guy told me. Because the network packets travel very close to the speed of light, and light takes about 1/4 of a sec to get from USA to SA, for a round trip is would take 1/2 a sec from the time you do an actiona nd it appears. You also have to factor in routers along the way, and different paths that it has to take.

Damn... Thanks guys.

Most of the SA servers for some of the games I play are empty half the time. And If I could play int, than atleast there would allways be someplace to play.

Okay first off, you can play RTS and MMORPG games on servers even with a 1000ms latency. There are 3 game types that need <200ms latency in order to play properly: Racing, Fighting and FPS. You also need to remember it's not the DOWNLOAD speed that assists with your latency, it's the UPLOAD speed that does the job. I have a 4MB line and I get "real world" upload speeds of 0.42MBp/s - that gives me slightly over 200ms on international servers for Bad Company 2 and <100ms on local servers.

Also remember - megabits != megabytes. :P

Anyway, as someone already pointed out, physical distance is inescapable. You're always going to have high pings playing internationally.
