5 Reasons why the videogame industry is going to crash

The only real thing on that list I agree with is game budgets. It is very worrying but I don't think we're heading for a crash just yet. The sales of the PS4/Xbox One are still high regardless of their prices so as long as people are willing to buy the expensive consoles/games, the publishers will continue trying to milk that. Once the consumers get fed up, causing losses all over the industry, then we'd be looking at a crash in my opinion.

It's not a bad list and it highlights some keys issue, however the doomsday vision is a little premature and at this stage is still a crazy guy with a cardboard sign. Still I hope some devs get to see this.

I hope it doesn't crash before I get my ps4 lol but ja this is crap talk they been predicting this crash the last 10 years and all that happens is more and more people are gaming.

I believe what they say about the publishers being true. Overly corporate types without a clue about game design but making all the decisions.
Future of gaming probably lies with the indy devs.

Agree with all the points the author writes. Having said that... he's missing one point.

It's not the gaming industry that's going to crash, it's just a few companies. As he said... many companies are just one failed game away from bankruptcy.

The Activisions and EAs and won't be around forever. This happens again and again and is evident to anyone who's studied any kind of BCom or even read any business books. Large companies are just too big and heavy to respond quickly enough to the market. Mind you, the gaming market doesn't change overnight, but it is changing. For all the points the author listed, these companies will either change or fade away with time and we'll have a wholly different industry.

With games like Star Citizen and Planescape coming out the indie's are going to go toe to toe with the big boys - and my predictions are that they'll win.

In all honesty, now I've never heard about cracked.

It's a great site for killing some time. I'd take everything on there with a grain of salt, though they often make excellent points. It's often straight to point writing with nonstop tongue in cheek comments.

I agree completely. There are a few things which should have been added as well:
1) Gaming companies telling consumers what they should like and not like, instead of listening to what they want within reason. I'm not saying listen to every rant, but when enough people ask for Simcity to be offline, make it offline. Same goes for Diablo III.
2) Yearly releases - no real reason to release the game, except to stabilize the budget.
3) Free to play phenomenon - everybody jumping on the f2p phenomenon will learn a very hard lesson once people realize how much money they are actually spending and what they are getting for it, compared to the previous model.
4) Games aren't complete on release day - and often take years to reach a proper level of development - BF4 for example.
5) Dividing communities by deploying DLCs too quickly - when a DLC is announced within 6 months of the release date it really should have been included in the game for free.

I agree with every point you make but I still dont think the market is gonna crash people forget that a couple of months ago a certain game came out and sold 30+ million.I do agree that companies have to be more aware of what consumers actually want not what they think we want.

Yep, but it won't go on like that forever. I don't think it will be a major crash, more of a re-alignment. Big studios will go under and we will see lots more small studios appearing and prospering. Things like Kickstarter will be a massive driving force.

I think it will be the same as always where certain studios and publishers will close down and others will flourish.

Will the whole industry crash? I doubt it.

The industry was tiny back when it crashed. Now its huge and needs a few things to change like dlc. I wish they would rather bring back full blown expansion packs that were worth the money not this day one dlc bs.

Well I don't think that the collapse will happen but I don't think it's directly imminent. Companies just need to learn how to actually acclimating to the radically changing market and then they can weather the storm.

You've never heard of cracked? Some damn funny lists on that site. But yeah everything they write is for a joke, its isn't meant to be taken all that seriously.

Was going to say... Cracked has been around since the late 2007, it was originally a magazine from the late 50's.
