5 sequels we could have done without

Whats with all the Doom 3 hating?

Just remembered the thing that I hated the most about Far Cry 2 (aside from the driving - we're South African, we can drive around in the bush getting shot and sworn at in real life) was howfastthepeopletalkedandhowlittleemotioneverythingtheysaidhadrememberthatshititwasannoying.

Doom 3, i can see why people can hate, but i have to admit, i enjoyed it. I do hear id a going to make the gameplay more like doom 2 than doom 3, what ever that means. I hope more of a fast paste, played a bit of doom 2 the other day it was actually pretty fun even though the graphics were a tad rubbish.

Far cry 2, wasn't terrible, but in no way as cool as the 1st

MW2? seriously? Its one of the most popular games ever made, you may not like it, but it has provided many people with an enjoyable experiece, you can hardly say it wasn't worth making because you didn't enjoy it. (I'm saying this as a person who is a battlefield fan boy and didn't play much beyond the SP in MW2)

Yeah, seriously. Justin Bieber is also popular and I'm sure he has provided many people with what they consider enjoyable experiences as well. Doesn't change the fact that he sucks.

It's precisely because it's so popular that I have a problem with it. People just buy CoD games because they are CoD games. They could make a game that matches Rogue Warrior in every regard and make it look cool with marketing and millions of people will still buy it just because of the name.

I have to disagree with 2 games on that list:

1) Age of Empires 3

Honestly? For me it has gotta be one of the best AOE games ever (Except for 1, wasn't so mad about 2)! I think the whole gunpowder age was well done, and to have a narrative that continues through all three stories was quite fresh. I will agree and say that the expansions were kak, but the original game was awesome!

2) Farcry 2

Once again I can't understand how that game can be on the list?! It has gotta be one of the best sandbox games to date! It had an original setting and the story was quite nice (Although not the best). The environments were varied and it has some original ideas. So all in all I gotta say that Farcry 2 should not be on that list.

Regarding Far Cry 2. While I'll give it to you that the different environments were nice and I really liked the fact that crosshairs are disabled by default and the weapon jamming (to a certain extent) as well as the cool animations when healing yourself were great touches, the driving around and the enemies respawning at checkpoints every 2 minutes ruined the experience for me completely. I played the game for about 6 - 10 hours before finally giving up.

Isn't that the same as any FPS though? So really in the end of the day it was a quality FPS imo!

LOL. I guess, but most of the other FPS I played never bored me with tedious navigation and kept me interested 'till the end. :p

Hahaha, yeah you gotta enjoy traveling in a game to fully appreciate Farcry 2 :D! I remember one mission where I got a mission from one faction that required me to visit the two extreme opposite sides of the map :p! That was the only mission I didn't like but otherwise it was good :)

Wow dude! Did you actually manage 10 hours? Lol! Think I made it to about 2.. The game was really too boring and the shooting mechanics were quite shit as well! Crappy hitreg and the kills were so unsatisfying. Wholly disappointing, especially after the first one was right up there in my books.

On another note, I actually enjoyed Age 3 a lot! I spent many, many hours with that game. Even though the first and second ones were a lot better, I took it for what it was and it was still fun.

I'm not going to say Far Cry 2 was bad ... it wasn't. It had a lot of good inventive ideas - and the sandbox idea can work pretty well ... as we saw in the first installment. Problem is, someone in the development team said "Well, since they like the sandbox so much, lets give them a BIGGER one. Like ... China sized." It just became an issue of travelling to do anything in the game overshadowing the gameplay itself ... travelling outweighed action by a factor of 2:1 ... 3:1 easily. And if you lost your car in the middle of nowhere - man were you screwed.

Add to that the fact that you had to destroy the same guard-post 5 or 6 times because the game kept mindlessly resupplying targets ... that wore off pretty quickly as well.

I must say though - having someone swear at me in Afrikaans was quite a novelty :D

Far cry 2: so much potential wasted :(
Bioshock 2: The gameplay was better but the story, the main driving force behind the bioshock series, fell a bit flat.
The new DMC: What have they done to my DANTE!!

Definitely agree with a few of those. Bioshock 2 was a good game, but didn't do anything different from the first. It was pretty much just a cash in on the first game's success. Far Cry 2 got too old too fast. Driving around for 20-30 minutes just to go kill someone or blow something up and driving all the way back to go get a new mission completely ruined the experience for me.

Disagree with some of the ones mentioned in this thread as well. Dead Rising 2 is brilliant, it is one of the only 2 games I have ever finished 3 times or more in a row, Prototype being the other. KOTOR II was just as good, I enjoyed it a LOT more than the first one even with the less than perfect ending. I also rather enjoyed F.E.A.R 2. I never played it when it first came out and finished it for the first time about two weeks ago. Really looking forward to F.E.A.R. 3.

I would add MW2 to that list as well. To me there is absolutely nothing different about MW and MW2. It's exactly the same game with just a different (attempt at a) story and levels. Black Ops might have failed as a MP game for me, but at least I really enjoyed the SP and could actually make sense of the story.

I considered MW2, but last time I put that on a negative list it incurred a lot of angry nerd wrath. Lol, plus there were others I felt were probably more deserving.

LOL, I know what you mean. My friends think I'm crazy for thinking it's not a 9/10 game.

His genre of music sucks, which is teen pop. He doesn't suck at what he does.

MW2 was a lot of fun to play, even though it was hugely popular and had a huge marketing campaign. You could almost equat it to pop gaming. THere is a huge demand from the casual gamer market for this sort of game. And you mentioned Rogue Warrior, it too had a pretty big marketing campaign yet it still failed, why? because it was complete rubbish. No matter how much marketing you do, a game cannot be hugely popular if its complete rubbish.

I'm with you Gir. For all the hate MW2 received (that awesome "boycott"), it was a fantastic game. My first ever foray into online MP as a matter of fact. Once I hit Prestige, at the same time the hacking/childish shit became unbearable, I had no choice but to hang up my FAL.
