Dead Space was and is an incredible game.
God knows what Raven's got against that one :/

Sorry dumbed down? the very essence of C&C was always the tank rush! no different in generals...
1. I have played and finished Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. Enjoyed the Gamecube version more. (I can't help it, I like sitting)
2. I have played copious amounts of Peggle and other PopCap games. The casual games that were in my mind at the time were games such as Harry Potter or similar movie-games.
3. I have played Halo 3 as well as Halo 2 on the PC. With a game like Half Life 2 in mind, I couldn't find what was truly special about both of them.
I wouldn't really think of it as being a hierarchy. I think it just describes a certain kind of gamer who takes gaming in his or her life quite seriously, for whatever reason that may be. We're those people who are somewhat sad to see JRPGs diminishing while the rest of the gaming world continues to show lack of innovation and originality. Some don't give a shit, and that's fine, but some do and will express their opinions about it.
Raven Gold, you almost had me until you slagged off Dead Space. That's just unforgivable.

Dead space was just badly ported. Sure it might great on whatever console you guys played it on. But the PC version was just plain bad.
Yeah, but atleast in RA2 and earlier they didn't try and hide it behind all sorts of useless "strong vs/weak vs" crap. And Generals and onward were just copying starcraft in the playing style.
I used to be a solid gamer, but dumbed myself down quite hectically ... mostly because I want to zone out while gaming in my old age.
I've gone from playing games for 32hrs straight or Lanning 3 days in succession to getting bored with a game 40mins in and going to bed.
I'd honestly prefer to play the old nintendo games than sit through hours of tutorials and long boring quests.
In essence, I believe game development has changed gaming from a challenge to a storyline. Because face it, even though most game storylines leave a lot to be desired, you're still expected to be able to finish the game. Older gen games were actually properly challenging. Especially with no save option. I've never beaten the end boss in Jackal, no matter how many times I played through the stages to get my damn jeep there. Beating the end boss in Contra felt like an accomplishment.
In fact I can list a ton of games I played where I'd sit for hours and hours on end each and every night trying to clock it, to no avail. Double Dragon1 , Karateka, Adventure Islander, GI Joe, Those little mini ninjas, Monsterbash, BioMenace, etc. All those games were flipping hard and you'd replay them from scratch each time, but it kept you entertained.
Lately I've put my MMO's aside again because they're too mundane. I get immense pleasure out of my basic titles such as Little Big Planetâ„¢, Sega Rally (Arguably the plainest racing game out there) and Burnout (where I've only completed maybe 3 missions, the restof the time I just randomly crash into stuff for the hell of it.)
As for motion control, I haven't had much experience with it, but I get the feeling the technology is the main focus, rather than subtly complimenting the game. Uncharted is a prime example of how it could be used, where you have to balance-walk across a beam maybe 2 or 3 times in the entire game. The rest of the time PowderBucket and I can sit on the couch like a bunch of lurkers and move little more than our fingers.
Halo I played flat out on PC back when it first came out ... it was really epic until I ran out of bullets and had to use alien guns. I _HATE_ alien / non realistic guns. Which is why I don't play Doom/Quake/whatnot ... (Quake1 Nailgun, you're forgiven my dear friend)
As for FPS's ... I only really play SP mode. I used to be a die-hard CS & BF2 fan playing online literally nonstop. I even have close to 100hrs logged just for commander. But again - lately I just find it a drag and would rather play a single player game somewhere else. I bought BC2 and finished the campaign, but logging little over an hour on MP before stopping.
In closing ... gaming means something different to each and every one of us. As long as you enjoy your level of gamerosity, so what? I'm glad we're all at different levels of gaming and enjoy different games. Diversity is the spice of life.

Surprisingly, my opinions are informed. I've played it as well (The Half Blood Prince for PS3). I didn't like. In my opinion, it had very little depth and value (compared to, say, the old Jak and Daxter games). Just so happened that, like many other games of it kind which I also think aren't very good, it targeted more of a 'light-hearted' audience. Therefore I established a link between being casual and being shit.2. Actually, I've played one of those Harry Potter games (on Wii, no less), and it was a solid, entertaining game. Just because it looks casual doesn't mean it's shit.
I never said Halo was trying to be like Half Life 2, I just said that that it doesn't quite match up to it. I was not talking about multiplayer in the first place. I was talking about the single-player experience.3. But Halo isn't trying to be Half-Life 2. Halo is mostly about the multiplayer, and the multiplayer is loads of fun.
It's not "blasting" in the literal sense, Azimuth, it's expressing an opinion, just how you are expressing your opinion against mine. I don't spend a lot of time 'hating,' (more of my time is spend gaming), but when I am asked to discuss a particular topic on a forum and my feelings tend to a certain direction I will express them. The beauty of forums is to share different viewpoints. I'm not running around saying things like "Xbox is FoR StUpId PeOpLe" because I do not own one myself, but if I have had a bad experience with a game I will have a certain opinion of it and have a right to express it when asked. Just how you have the right to "rage" about and insult Counter Strike gamers to your heart's content in a national magazine.I just can't work out why you'd waste your time "blasting" this stuff. So you're not into it. K. Play something else. I just don't understand this mindset that says, "If you don't like it, rage." Gamers spend far too much time hating on things they don't like instead of playing things they do like.
That is called an example. Most gamers who play JRPGs are also 'hardcore' gamers. Not all serious gamers care about JRPGs.![]()
Maplassie's Hardcore Extreme ultra uber magnifico Hardcore gamer questionnaire extraordinary hardcore gamer thingy.
1. Have you ever aced a round of COD4 while wearing Hello kitty boxer shorts?
2. Have you ever finished Deus Ex with the keyboard only on a monochrome screen?
3. What is your favourite character from Mortal Kombat Maplassie edition (MaplaSsie edition including MaplassIe, MaplAssie , maplassie , Maplassie and maPlassie)
'While blockbuster game creation is everything that most game developers working today growing up wanted to do, it's precisely the wrong thing to chase in gaming's contemporary landscape.' Risk-taking from publishers and investors has dramatically declined in recent times, the Mass Effect and Dragon Age studio-runner noted: 'As a result, innovation and creativity [are] being squeezed. Where the bottom of the market had dropped out at one point, now it’s the middle of the market has dropped out. Unless you can be in the top ten releases at one given time, it's unlikely that a triple-A game is going to make money.'"

Making me sound like such a lazy bum <_<
(Although it is my preferred style of gaming. Best served with a cup of tea.)

I'm not sure where your "mindset" to "rage" at all my opinions is coming from. This is a discussion forum. If you want to patronize people, I'm sure you'll find somewhere else on the internet to do so.
GTFOMy issues with the casual market don't revolve around games like peggle, I don't even care about them. But the games that have potential for greatness but get dumbed down for people who should go play something else, like in traffic.
Games on this list include:
Spore. was innovative did you play sims?
Need For Speed. was good till after carbon
Medal of Honor: Airborne.
C&C Generals and onward. generals was the best C&C since RA2!
Dead Space.
CoD: MW2. Dude seriously have you played the MP? its harder then cod4
Battlefield.
Crysis.
See the pattern? EAids!
Also note: great sales =/= great games.
Halo: I quite liked the 1st one on the pc. What I don't like about is the fact that other FPS franchises, that used to be very sophisticated are trying to copy Halo's playing style, at least when it comes to the PC versions. (MW2 is the culprit here.)
The economy: Refer back to the 1st point for the culprit.
Motion controlers: Well just like peggle, I don't give a phyling phuck. If I want to dance around like a twit waving a penis joke in my hands, I'll go to a nightclub.
And the last point I agree fully. FPS games are great! The problem is that it's being saturated with utter crap.
