5 Things Hardcore Gamers Need to Get Over

Halo: I quite liked the 1st one on the pc. What I don't like about is the fact that other FPS franchises, that used to be very sophisticated are trying to copy Halo's playing style, at least when it comes to the PC versions. (MW2 is the culprit here.)

Oky in my honest opinion you are talking rubbish. How has Infinity Ward and Activision magically try to copy halo's playing style after the massive success of Cod4? My question to you is, Have you ever played MW2 MP? For more than a hour?

plus the whole EAids thing smacks of you just not liking the company, regardless of any good games they make. your oppinion is now null and void in my eyes sorry

oh shit, I didn't even notice that, damn people still hating on EA? WTF

Just bec they butchered one franchise does not mean they are not a good publisher. I think allot of there games are Good.

Man has a point! and he loves Half Life!

GTFO

Spore was innovative, yes, but it had FAR more potential that simply wasn't exploited.
I agree there. I should have added, since Carbon it went downhill.
C&C generals was the 1st since RA2, and it was just another generic starcraft clone just like all the other C&C games afterwards.
And yes, I have played MW2 online, and it's a carbon copy of Halo.

I don't like the company because of what they do to their games. It's called having a bad reputation. They USED to make good games up until about 6 or 7 years ago.

It's not just one franchise. It's everything they touch. They leave out so much potential in ALL of thier games.

Crysis: Graphics was the 1st and formeost thing on thier minds and than they just slapped a shotty and badly thought out story line and gameplay ontop.

C&C and NFS need no explanation.

Spore: Innovative, yes, but it still could have done with even a little bit more work instead of being rushed.

Just a few examples.

I think EA has become pretty damn awesome over the last couple of years.

Dead Space
Mirror's Edge
Army of Two
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age
Dante's Inferno
Bad Company 2
Brutal Legend
Rock Band

All of the games have a pretty decent amount of polish and are far from shit. (unless you subscribe to the idea that < 80% = shit) In fact, I don't think any other publisher out there has a better holistic collection of games in the market right now.

How was C&C generals a starcraft clone? It had the same gameplay element as the other cnc games. And the only really bad cnc game was cnc 4. Spore was just to ambitious and crysis 2 looks really fun. Bad company 2 is a good game even though it needs more maps. And how is mw2 a carbon copy of halo? It is exactly the same as cod 4 just with out dedi servers. I have been gaming for many any many years and to be honest allot of old games were crap. Yes there is allot of crappy games out today but that has always bene the case with games. The only gripe I have is rpg games are not what they used to be.

What and who makes a hardcore gamer a hardcore gamer? Why does somebody who plays Harry Potter, Peggle, Hoyle's Casino, Sims or hidden object games get classes as a casual gamer? If there has to be, and I emphasize IF, a separation in class between casual and hardcore gaming, let it be the amount of time spent playing and not what is played.

The most important thing any gamer must get into their skulls is that money will always talk for a company making/producing games. I'm sure there are lots of developers out there who would love to make games differently, but they need a paycheck at the end of the month and thus produce games that are not always what everyone expected or wanted, but what sells and makes them plenty of money.

As for so many people who bash and rage at EA or at IW or at Activision, get over yourselves. So many read what other "respected" bloggers, writers have written about lambasting said companies and jump on the bandwagon. That really pisses me off. Grow a pair and form your own opinion. Yes, obviously people can have the same opinions regarding a game or whatever is under discussion, but I find too many okes just bitching about something for the sake of bitching.

As far as motion controls go, it has it's uses in subtlety. As someone said, in things like Unchartered, or in Heavy Rain is very cool. But that is merely my opinion and again it comes down to money. If the masses keep buying it, why on earth would companies stop making it because some self proclaimed hardcore gamer says its kak? And yes, I owned a Wii, but sold it after 2 months as the novelty quickly wore off on me. I played one or two titles and didn't like it. What I don't understand is why people are flaming about this. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Don't read the reviews, don't get involved. Again, people like to bitch and gripe about it because it gives them something to whine about.

At the end of the day these are merely my opinions and I'm entitled to them as indeed you are yours, but I fear that the game makers out there don't care about me and you as individuals. They will always look to the masses first and put their needs and expectations first. And I can't honestly blame them, because they are in the business of making money. If you don't like their products, don't buy it. Simple.

I think I found out what a hardcore gamer is: somebody who can keep playing a game, even though its long lost its magic, like mappy, I don't know how anybody can play cod4 for so long....
interesting definitions in urban dictionary according to this, most of us are hardcore gamers...

I dunno I think there is some difference between hardcore and casual games. It's not easy to pin down but it's there. Maybe it's just in the amount of time they spend gaming, or maybe it's to do with the complexity of the games they enjoy. Me, I'm an old-school Nintendo gamer - I get mocked by my FPS friends for playing Mario Galaxy but whatever, I know a classic when I see it.
